It's the challenge of it that grabs me by the scruff of the neck, every time.
No matter the time or weather, the place or distance.

The opportunity to get close to another species, to share their space, their habitat and way of life for an hour, a day, weeks and sometimes months, the ultimate reward.

To become so familiar a presence, that one can imagine acceptance into the fold and briefly feel welcome.

To imagine that, when I point my camera in their direction this time, everything will come together. Light, timing, framing and myriad variables.
And when the day is over, the anticipation. Oh, the anticipation.

Have I made a photograph that will cause me to tingle all over with an energy that builds on the journey home with a pocket full of delicious RAW?

Have I caught a special moment?

Will hours of concentration and patience reward me with a photograph that will inspire me to prepare myself for tomorrow's possibilities? Maybe! But if not, I wont be disappointed, because there is always tomorrow, and a challenge that I pray is perpetual.

I love the challenge and it's elusive reward.
