1x is a photo community with a difference. Take the work of the most talented photobloggers, various famous photographers, and many serious amateurs, select their best work and collect it all in one place - that is 1x. Everyone is welcome to contribute, but every photo is screened, which means it has to be approved by an editor (screener) before being published. 1x is a photo gallery with a constantly evolving exhibition. We publish dozens of new images every day.

Our screeners do not take it upon themselves to decide what is good or bad photography or what is art. However, we publish only a small fraction of the submissions. Many of the excellent images that don't get published simply do not fit our vision for 1x in terms of style or subject matter.

To be able to show images not published, 1x also offers a premium membership, which includes your own professional homepage with complete control over what photos to display.

We created 1x because we saw a need for a collection of pre-screened high quality photos without the vacation shots, pet portraits, and other snapshots that make up the bulk of other photo sites. We also wanted to provide a forum for more detailed photo critique than what other sites offer. And finally we wanted a site that was elegant and easy to navigate. Our mission is to find the sublime together, but even if this turns out to be too difficult, we hope that 1x can be a source of inspiration, a tool to help us develop as photographers, and a place to make some friends along the way.
1x.com is dependent on donations, if you like this site, please make a donation to make sure it can continue running.

Why do you screen pictures? Why not just allow everything?

We want 1x.com to be synonymous with quality. There are far too many sites out there that will publish your pictures without restrictions. We believe there is a need for a site that favors artistic photography. To get published on 1x.com your picture must fit into our artistic vision, it has to pass through our net before others can view it. Honest critique will make you develop as a photographer and encourage you to strive for excellence. We hope that all our visitors will appreciate our quality demands and know that on our site they will always find something interesting.

What is your vision and philosophy?

The idea of 1x.com is to create a collection of the most beautiful photos in the world. We stand up for photography as an art. 1x.com is intended as an oasis of quality in a world of never ending commercial messages and constant noise of impressions, a place to rest your mind for a while.

We want the collection to be a source of inspiration, because our firm belief is that anyone can become an artist, if you are determined to improve and put your heart and soul into your work. Art can be anything from painting, making sculptures and composing music to sweeping the street or cutting the grass. No one can deny that cutting a bonsai tree is art. What is fundamental when creating art is that you care about your work. Self-criticism and having your work honestly evaluated by others are essential for developing as an artist.

Photo is about expressing yourself. The one general rule about photo is that every photograph you shoot is in fact a self-portrait. Even though a photo resembles reality, the photographer decides where to point the camera, at what time and what settings to use depending on past experience, personality, and mood.

Everyone has the right to be recognized and everyone can find their own meaning in a photograph. We want to provide a place where you will meet others and ultimately find yourself through images.

4. Photobook "210 Photographers"

What is the photobook "210 Photograhers?"

Every year 1x.com makes a photo with some of the best photos of the site. The 2009 book includes more than 210 photographers, participating with one picture each. Site crew selects the photos, they should both be extraordinary individually and fit very well together. The photo book is a piece of art in itself.

How can I participate in the photo book?

The deadline for participating in the 2009 photo book has already passed. The requirements for participating is that you need to upload at least five pictures published on 1x.com in high resolution. If you want to be included in the book, you also need to buy it. Site crew will then select one picture to include in the book.

How long does shipping take?

The photo book is ready to be shipped, it usually takes 1-2 weeks depending on the postal service in your country.

What are the terms for participating?

By participating singing up for participation you grant 1x.com the right to print one of the photos you have uploaded in high resolution in the photo book. You also grant us the right to use the included image for promoting the book. Unfortunately we can't afford any compensation to participating photographers.

5. Screening

How does the screening process work?

New uploads that are posted to screening start in a general queue, at which point the interface shows "waiting for screening". No one can see the images at this point.

After a while (a few minutes to a few hours, usually), a screener asks the system for a given number of new images, taken randomly from the waiting queue. The screener can not choose which images are added, nor see them before they are already transfered. As soon as this is done, the image is officially in screening. However, it is only visible to the responsible screener.

The screener then takes a look at his or her personal queue, and the first judgment takes place. A few different things can happen:

  • The photo is a masterpiece, and it is love at first sight. The screener then publishes it right away, without going through member screening. This is an instant publish, and it happens relatively rarely.

  • The photo is an uninteresting snapshot or has an obvious defect, and there is absolutely no chance that it can make it to the front page, at least in its current state. This can be because of an intrusive border, a small size, a big copyright text or simply because we feel it doesn't belong on 1x. It can also happen if it is the reupload of a previously non-published image with no significant changes.
If the screener is 100% sure, he/she rejects it right away, sometimes with a standard message if something is easily fixable (again, size, border or copyright). This is an instant reject.

  • The photo has the potential to reach the front page, but the screener does not feel strongly enough to take an instant decision. He or she votes on it and sends it to the crew queue.

Assuming that the image is still in screening, it is now out of the particular screener's queue, and can be seen by all the crew. Other screeners will come over time, look at the image and vote on it. They can also leave some comments if something needs to be discussed or if they want to make their opinion more precise. Here too, several things can happen:

  • A consensus is reached that the image definitely belongs on the front page, and it is published right away. This happens very rarely, since we prefer to always get the opinions of the members before publishing.

  • A consensus is reached that the image is not 1x material. It then gets rejected, usually without any message.

  • No consensus can be reached, either because everyone is neutral or because some like it and some don't. The image is then sent to member screening (hereafter MS), to get more opinions.

The image made it to MS, where it is being presented to all members, who can rate the photo from 1-6, where 1 is weak and 6 is excellent with a scale in between. Each image will get 100 votes before member screening stops.

Once the MS process is finished, the time for the final decision has come. It is usually taken by the initial screener (i.e. the one to which queue the image was added at the beginning), though any member of the crew can take action at any time. All the elements are gathered in one interface: votes from the crew, the votes from MS, any comments that members may have added, and any discussion that the crew may have had on the image. There are again several possibilities:

  • The crew feels strongly in one way or another. Then unless MS is extremely one-sided, or comments from members give reason to think otherwise, the screener follows the rest of the crew.

  • The crew is split or neutral, but there is a clear result from MS. Then we follow the members.

  • Both the crew and the members are undecided. Those are the hard cases, there is usually a lively discussion, with sometimes crew members changing opinions, but in the end, a decision is always reached.

Finally, a couple of general notes:

  • At no point during the entire process will a screener be able to see his/her own images. Crew members are being treated exactly the same as regular members.

  • The only moment where we really pay attention to which category the image belongs to is right before publication. We mostly try to make sure that nudes are in "fine art nude", that no zoo or pets images are in "nature" and that photomontages are in "creative edit", but a wrong category is never a reason for rejection.

While screening, we are looking for originality, message, mood, aesthetics and technical quality. The picture should stand out in some way, affect and tell something to the viewer. We won't accept anything that isn't in line with our artistic vision. For more detailed information about the upload criteria, check the upload page in "Account".

If you want to influence what's being published, go to "Account" and "Member screening" and start rating pictures! 1 means weak and 6 means excellent and the other numbers are a scale in between. This is what the numbers stand for:

  • 1) I am strongly against publishing
    - Snapshots and photos that has nothing of general interest at all

  • 2) I am against publishing
    - Photos that are taken with a serious intention but lacks impact

  • 3) I am indifferent and therefor against publishing
    - Photos with some quality but you still don't think it is enough for publishing

  • 4) Not a top photo but good enough
    - Photos with enough qualities to be published but has flaws or impact on the lower scale

  • 5) For publishing
    - A good photo with strong qualities well worthy of being published

  • 6) Strongly for publishing
    - An excellent photo. Flawless or with such strong impact that flaws aren't noticed

If you are unsure about a certain photo, rate it 3 or 4 or leave it blank. Never be afraid to vote, an 1x.com photo screener always has the final word to ensure that the artistic vision of the site is maintained.

How do I find screening results?

You can find information about your uploads in "Uploaded photos" in the "Account" tab. Your photos will be listed as not yet screened, waiting for screening, not published and published. Clicking on a photo will give you extended information about it. If the photo was not published the official screeners sometimes add additional short reasons for rejection to further explain why it wasn't approved. If it reads "Please reupload", consider the feedback on how it can be improved and give it another try!

My photo has been in screening for a very long time. Is it stuck?

Your photo hasn't got stuck or disappeared, it's just that some pictures need more discussion. This doesn't mean that it stands a greater or a smaller chance of getting published, it just means that unusual photos or photos that are a matter of principle take longer time in screening. Up to two weeks is perfectly normal.

What kind of photos are not published?

Photos with poor technical quality (banding, JPEG artifacts, excessive noise etc.), with no other aspects to compensate for it, are not published. A photo might be also technically perfect, but still not accepted here because it's ordinary and we have seen it many times before.

Photos that are only documentary, for example of a building, a plant or a performance, are not published. Those photos need to be creative as well, for example with an interesting angle, composition, lighting, symbolism or something else added to the original motif.

Editing is another common reason for rejection. Quite a lot of editing is allowed in the creative edit section, but no photo should appear over-edited, the editing should be as invisible as possible and always reinforce the message of the photo. Pure digital art, with little resemblance to the original photograph, is not accepted here.

Common motifs include sunsets, seagulls, roses, tulips, crosses, tourist attractions, typical wedding-shots and photos of kids, pets and vacations that are better left for the family album. Other common themes are a lonely tree, people on the beach, the rocks and smooth water, the boats and sunset and hearts in varying forms. The common shots need to be outstanding and technically flawless to be accepted.

Photos with flags in them have to be really impressive and there needs to be a very special point made with the flag or it won't be published, because flags are such a cliché symbol.

We rarely publish photos with the photographer or cameras in them, unless they are outstanding, because cameras are usually not that beautiful in artistic photos, and because it ruins the illusion - the viewer is reminded that it's just a photograph.

Zoo-photos where it's obvious that the photo is not shot in nature, but there is no special point of it being shot in a zoo, will not be published unless they are extremely good. A photo of a sad animal clinging to the bars or a really happy one may in contrast be published since it raises the question whether it's right to have animals in captivity or not.

Photos of sculptures, paintings, posters or other artwork are not accepted unless given a deeper meaning, since the photographer is not the original artist.

Product shots, logos and other shots with a typical commercial style are not accepted because they are not considered artistic here.

Photos of homeless people are rarely published, because of the ethical issue. For the same reason don't upload photos of nude children please, it's not appropriate.

Pornographic material or very repulsive photos are strictly prohibited, uploading such photos will cause a permanent ban.

What kind of photos are published?

We don't have a specific preference for any genres or styles here, but simply look for three things - aesthetics, mood and story. Almost every kind of motif is accepted here, as long as the photo is beautiful, meaningful and affects the viewer. Every motif no matter how common, can be shot in an interesting and original way. We look for photos you want to come back to for a second time, photos which are moody and tell a story, photos that stand out. Photos that are merely documentary are not published here, they need to be creative as well, for example with an original angle, buckets of feeling or unexpected symbolism. Every kind of lighting, composition, blur, editing, effect or technique used must reinforce the message of the photo.

I have a picture that was not published but it's better than an already published one. Why?

Don't compare! Every picture is unique and will be judged individually. If you get a rejection because your shot is blurry and find published shots with similar blur that means nothing. Screening policies change, the quality demands have been raised several times, meaning it's harder to get published today than in the beginning. Instead of finding flaws in others' pictures, try to improve your own!

I disagree with the screeners about their decision. I feel frustrated. What can I do?

Everyone, including the most experienced professionals, gets a rejection at Onexposure once in a while, it's a natural part of Onexposure that every member has to face. This doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad photo, just that it doesn't fit on Onexposure, even though we do allow a very broad range of motifs. Some photos are very pleasing to the eye, but we are looking for something more, a story or a strong feeling. Remember that Onexposure is not an image hosting service, it's rather an arts gallery, and no arts gallery would hang any photos on their walls no matter how good they are. A good thing about getting rejected is that it guarantees that your portfolio is top class when you want to show it for a sponsor, buyer or make an exhibition, and it's not only made up of your own favorites but the favorites of experts and a broad range of members.

It's frustrating to be rejected, especially many times in a row, but don't give up. If you are persistent and are determined to improve, we advise you to spend some time looking at others' photos and hang around in the critique forum - you are guaranteed to learn something over time. After a while most photographers get a feeling for what kind of photos we expect. A tip is to look though the collection carefully to find out what kind of photos we are looking for. However, screening policies change over time, and if a motif is very common it will be harder and harder to get it published. Screening photos is not easy because everyone has a different taste, even though "quality" is often something everyone can agree on. The paradox of screening is that the photographers want all their photos published but only want to see the best ones by others.

If you strongly disagree about a rejection you can always send a message to the head screener, using 1x-mail. Make sure you write a detailed explanation why you think your photo should be published.

6. Uploading photos

How do I upload pictures?

In order to upload photos you need to have an account and be logged in to Onexposure.

  • When you are logged in, click "Account" in the main navigation to enter the section where you can upload pictures and manage your account.

  • To upload a new picture, click "Submit a photo".

  • Browse for the file on your hard drive and click "Upload and proceed to step 2".

  • If the upload was successful you can now choose between entering information about the photo you just uploaded or uploading another file and entering the information later.

  • If you chose to upload another photo, you will find the photo you uploaded before in "Uploaded photos" in "Account". Go to "Uploaded photos" to enter information about it, send it to screening or post it for critique.

  • If you chose to edit the information of the photo you just uploaded, you will be automatically transferred to the "Uploaded photos" section, where you can enter details of the photo and then send it to screening or post it for critique. If you are not yet ready to send it to screening or post it for critique, click "Back to overview" and you will be able to do so later.

I have improved a photo. Can I upload it again?

If you've made major improvements to a photo, or if the screeners have asked you to fix something, you can upload the same photo again. Go to "Uploaded photos" in your account, click on the image you want to resubmit and then click on the "Upload an improved version" button. In case you reupload an already published image and it's approved, unique views, favorites, comments and albums will be saved.

Re-uploaded photos are always considered by crew. However, the improvements need to be major if it's going to be published. The photo will most likely not be sent to member screening again, if the members have already voted. Unfortunately some photos will never be published because they don't fit the style of 1x.com. Sending a photo to critique and then making a re-upload with improvements won't guarantee that it will be published, since critique is a place to get general feedback about photos. On the other hand, being published on 1x.com is not everything. Even if it's not published, you still might have learned something in critique and you have hopefully improved the photo.

How many photos can I upload each week?

There are no limits on how many photos you can have in your portfolio on 1x.com, but there are limits on how many photos you can upload weekly. The amount of photos that can be uploaded per week is called upload slots. Each member has a constant number of regular base slots and a varying number of bonus slots, determined by activity in critique and member screening. The higher the membership, the more photos you can upload every week.

Standard members: 1 regular slot + 1 bonus slot, in total up to 2 slots
Bronze members: 3 regular slots + 3 bonus slots, in total up to 6 slots
Bronze premium members: 5 regular slots + 5 bonus slots, in total up to 10 slots

Silver members have an additional 3 upload slots.
Gold members have unlimited upload slots.

To earn each bonus slot you need to either vote on 40 pictures in member screening, write 6 comments in member screening with more than 70 characters in each comment (a couple of sentences) or make 6 posts in the critique forum. Unused bonus slots expire within one week.

If you have bronze membership and upload a photo without sending it to screening or critique, you can delete it to get the slot back.

Do you publish images with copyright marks or other text?

Singatures, copyrights or other text in photos are not allowed because it ruins the artistic experience. We want to keep all pictures clean so everyone can enjoy them without disturbing text or symbols. is If you see other shots with added copyrights on the site, they're probably old shots from a time when this policy was less strict. 1x.com automatically adds a copyright banner, with the name of the photographer, at the bottom of all shots if they are downloaded or hotlinked.

Are borders in photos allowed?

We don't allow any kind of borders in photos because 1x.com already adds a border automatically and it looks strange in our layout with multiple borders. Even 1 pixel borders are not allowed. However, we do allow artistic borders, consisting of a texture, if they fit the image. Panorama shots, where borders are necessary to meet the size requirements are also allowed as well as borders in diptychs and triptychs.

7. Feedback on photos and the critique tab

How do I get feedback on photos?

Receiving critique is an important part of participating in a photo community, and crucial to developing as a photographer. Giving critique is also a great way to learn taking better photographs yourself. If you want critique on your own photos you have to comment others'. There are essentially three ways to get feedback on a photo:

  • Posting in the critique forum. This will give you the most in-depth critique and you should be prepared for your favorite image being torn to pieces!

  • Anonymous remarks from member screening. If your photo was passed to member screening, some members might have written comments while screening. To see such comments go to "Account" --> "Uploaded photos" and click on the photo. Be advised that these comments are not official statements from site crew but written by your fellow members!

  • Photo comments. If you specifically ask for it in the description of the image, you always have the chance of getting constructive tips about an image in photo comments on published images.

  • The best way to get feedback is perhaps to ask someone what they think about your photo! Don't be afraid to approach senior members, you will find that many people will be glad to help you out if you ask them specifically, and if they don't have the time there was no harm asking!

Sometimes there are remarks from the official screeners, but it's rare because of lack of time.

How do I submit an image to the critique forum?

Go to "Account" --> "Uploaded photos", select the photo and click on the button "Submit to critique". Before you can submit an image to critique you need to give critique on three other images. This is to ensure there is feedback on all photos submitted to critique. If you have the bronze or bronze premium membership you can send images to critique before screening, to get some tips about how to improve it and some advice if it's worth sending it to screening or not. When posting images in the critique forum make sure to follow the guidelines about what information to include in the description of the image. Thoroughly explain your thoughts about the image, why you sent it to critique and what kind of feedback you expect. Remember to always thank someone taking their time and giving feedback on your photo. Also remember that the critique forum is not a place to let steam off because your image was not published, it's a place for serious discussions about how to improve images and find out how other people interpret them, whether they are published or not. We very much encourage sending published images to critique as well.

What should I think about when giving and receiving critique?

Every opinion is interesting, from beginner's to expert's, since it's helpful for the photographer to know how various groups react to a particular photo. When writing critique, remember to be friendly and to thoroughly explain why you like a photo or not or how you think it can be improved. Our team of moderators will make sure all posts in the critique forum are high quality, actually helpful comments, which follows our guidelines for writing in critique.

8. Watchlist, friends, chat and favourites

How do I keep track of favourite photographers and friends?

You can add any photographer to your watchlist to keep track of his/her published photos. To do so click on the star icon below the presentation photo in the photographer's profile or go to your "Contacts" (bottom left corner, on the 1X bar), click on "Manage watchlist and friends" and type a name of the photographer you want to add. You can send a friend request to any photographer on your watchlist - go to "Manage watchlist and friends" menu and click on "request friendship" under the name of the photographer you'd like to invite. This option allows you to see the photographer's online status and to chat with him or her.

To view new pictures by your friends and favourite photographers go to the "Photos" tab and click "Watchlist".

How do I add photos to favourites?

To add a photo to your favourites click the star icon at the bottom right of the photo when you have opened it in full size. To watch all your favourite photos go to "Photos" and then click "Favourites". You can also see your own or someone else's favourites in that tab on someone's profile.

9. Troubleshooting

How do I select a photo for my forum profile?

First click on "Account" and then "Preferences". At the bottom you can select a presentation photo. You need to have at least one photo published.

I can't log in. What now?

Both usernames and passwords are case sensitive meaning you have to type them with upper and lowercase characters exactly the way you did when you registered. If you have forgotten your username or password, use the password retrieval form at the bottom of the login page. If you have forgotten which e-mail you registered as well, please contact support and we will take a look at it.

I have forgotten my password. What should I do?

Use the password retrieval form on the bottom of the login-page or by clicking here.

I have a question not covered by this FAQ. How do I get support?

Please do not post in the forum if you have support questions, feature suggestions or bug reports. Instead send an email to support[at]1x.com.

10. Rules

What are the rules for writing photo comments?

Remember to always be friendly when you write something on 1x.com. Never write in anger or insult anyone and always use a polite language. When we comment on someone's photo we must be careful not to hurt their feelings. It's ok to point out things to improve in photo comments, but don't tear the photograph into pieces unless the photographer has specifically asked for serious critique. Remember to always give some positive remarks as well. It's fine to write in any language in photo comments, but it's always appreciated if you try to provide an English translation.

What are the rules for writing in the forum?

When posting in the forum it's very important to be friendly and polite because misunderstanding can easily happen on the internet, where we only communicate in a written language without tone of voice and body expressions. If you are writing because you are upset about something, it's better to wait a day or two, when you can view things in a more objective manner. Never write in anger, insult someone or make personal accusations!

Another very important rule is to stay on the topic or the forum will be chaotic and confusing. If you want to discuss something not related to the topic, start a new thread instead of hi-jacking someone else's. Before creating a new thread, look through the old ones, to make sure the topic hasn't already been discussed, your question might already be answered.

In the forum it's not allowed to discuss the screening process, individual screening decisions or the front page, because those discussions tend to create a bad atmosphere in the forum. Also feature suggestions, bug reports and questions about the site should not be posted in the forum, they should be sent a private message to support[at]1x.com.

You have to write in English in the forum, but it's ok to write in another language as long as you provide an intelligible translation in English.

What are the rules for writing comments in member screening?

Member screening comments are anonymous, which can tempt some people not to be careful what they write under the cloak of anonymity. Comments are not anonymous to site crew however, except comments on a screener's own pictures. Because of the anonymity and that the photographer can not respond you have to be even more careful not to hurt somebody's feelings. When writing comments in member screening, please give critique, tell what you think is wrong about the picture and how it can be improved, but remember to always write something positive as well. Try to write something that is actually useful and will help the photographer improve. Just saying "excellent" or "horrible" doesn't help the photographer. If you don't have any suggestions about how to improve the picture, instead tell how you interpret it or explain in detail what you like or don't like about it, which can be of great value to the photographer.

What are the rules for posting in critique?

In the critique forum it's utterly important and a strictly enforced requirement to always give actual useful critique. Like in member screening if you have no idea about how to improve it, instead explain what you like or don't like about it and why, and tell about how you interpret the shot. Also when you post your own images in the critique forum it's required to write a detailed description about what kind of feedback you expect, why you submitted the photo to critique and your own thoughts about the photo. Also it's a big lack of respect not to thank someone who has taken his or her time to comment on your photo or not taking the advice into serious consideration.

The most common problem with the critique forum is that someone posts not because they are interested in improving the photo, but just because they want to hear how good it is, when it wasn't published. If one of your photos wasn't published it's a good idea to wait a couple of days before posting it to your critique to let some stem off. It always hurts to have one of your darlings shot down, everyone knows that.

Don't post to critique to get photos published on Onexposure, but rather to get advice about how to improve the photo as much as possible, which in turn will probably lead to a higher chance of being published. Some photos will never be published though no matter how much time you spend on them because the subject matter doesn't fit this gallery to begin with.

When submitting a photo to critique be prepared that it might be blow to pieces and never be angry when someone criticizes your work. If you can't handle that, if you don't intend to write actual useful critique or if you post just to get pats on your back, you will ruin it for the others who are interested in serious critique.

I feel discriminated. What should I do?

Every kind of discriminatory statements because of gender, race, age, sexual orientation, religion, political views or anything else is strictly forbidden in photo comments, forum, member screening, critique board and all other forms of communication on 1x.com. If you are being discriminated or suspect discrimination, please report it immediately to support[at]1x.com.

What are the consequences of violating the rules?

Violating the rules we have set up to ensure everyone gets along in this community, gets equal opportunities to make themselves heard and can feel confident and good about themselves, will lead to a warning. Also an official apology is expected to anyone who have been insulted or feels offended. Even if someone is offended because of a misunderstanding, it never hurts to apologize to make them feel better again. If the violator does not apologize or agree to change his/her behavior, it will lead to a ban from the community. If someone who has already been warned makes the same mistake again it will also lead to a ban. If the first violation is very severe it might lead to a direct ban without a warning. If you have been banned from the site and have a paid membership, no money will be refunded because it says in the contract when you sign up, it's not refundable. Bans are time-limited or permanent depending of how severe the violation was. We have the ability to make IP-bans so that it won't be possible to register a new account or connect to 1x.com at all.

11. Legal

Can I use images from 1x.com?

Never download, copy or use a photo in any other way without the permission of the photographer. Permission to copy pictures is completely up to the photographer, who has all the rights to the photo. Contact the photographer by writing on his or her board or log in and send him or her a personal message. 1x.com will follow up on any reported copyright infringement and will assist our photographers in taking legal action if necessary.

What rights do you claim over photos uploaded to 1x.com?

1x.com only claims the right to display your uploaded photos in the community. 1x.com also claims the right to display small thumbnails of your photos on other sites, like facebook, when linking to 1x.com. 1x.com does not claim the right to sell your photos. All rights still belong to the original copyright holder. It is not possible to delete individual photos from 1x.com, but if you have good reasons, contact one of the founders with your request and we might decide to have them removed. If you no longer wish to be a member of this community, you can request deletion of your account and all your photos will be removed after a grace period of three months, so you have the chance to change your mind.

Someone is using my picture on another site without my permission. What should I do?

If you see your pictures somewhere on the internet and you did not give the site permission to display them, it's a copyright infringement. Contact the site owner and demand that your copyrighted material is removed immediately. Also contact the founders of 1x.com and we will follow up on the case if the images are not removed and advice you about how to take legal action.

What rights do you claim over my high resolution versions of published photos?

High resolution files of published photos uploaded to 1x.com are stored in a secure off-line location, only accessible by the founders, for maximum protection. We don't claim any rights over the high resolution uploads, we just store them. When participating in a book project, you grant us the right to print selected photos in the book. You also grant us the right to use the photos for promoting the book. Unfortunately we can't afford economical compensation to photographers participating in book projects. In the future it might be possible to sell prints of photos online on 1x.com, but we will never sell prints of your photos without specifically asking for your permission.
