His eyes sucked me right in and it's hard to look away! ou trully captured a soul here !:)
Mark Kitaoka  Emily, Tyron worked in my building. Many of the folks would not speak to him as he could sometimes appear menacing. I had engaged him in conversation a few times and one day I simply asked if I could photograph him. He seemed shocked, but I told him that one of my hobbies is viewing faces and his was a remarkable one. So I asked that he simply turn his chair so the light would cascade over one side of his face and took this image.
Emily Bem  You are bold. I would just crumble if I had to ask someone I didn't really know if I could take their picture....and even if I did manage to do so, I would mess it up...ha ha!

I'm surprised people are intimidated by him. Here, I see so much kindness in his eyes.

:)
Mark Kitaoka  Bold? I think not, but perhaps...

I'm REALLY pleased that this image portrays him as he IS not as he appears. He can indeed look a bit menacing during his 'normal' facial expression. But as soon as he is engaged, his face changes. I noticed this when I would say hello to him. It was a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy where he would not smile and then look mean, so people would not speak to him.

God, thoses eyes ! They shine on a peculiar way. Absolutly not common (usually shining eyes bore me, because they always shine, seem to be nothing but a trick; there, it seems authentic. Don't know if I'm clear.)
Mark Kitaoka  envers, there were no 'tricks' with this image. Tyron was a security guard in my building and I had always thought he has such an interesting face. One day when I had my gear for a theatre shoot I was doing I simply asked him if I could photograph him. When he said yes, I went to my car, grabbed my camera and shot him where he sits. The light is wonderful as there are floor to ceiling windows with fabric blinds. I asked him to face so that the light was to his left and took this shot while he was seated looking up at me.

Thanks again.

What a great portrait. Very warm, human and intimate.
Mark Kitaoka  Marcelo, thanks for the comment. This was Tyron's last day here, so I was happy to get his picture.
