magnolia
As usual I was going for an older look. It seems to work well with this motive, and it brings out something of a melancholic, fleeting beauty.
Used an eraser on a monochrome layer in order to let a desaturated underlying layer "shine" through.

You are sharp in your eye to go for this candid capture rather then a more posed look! It makes Magnolia seem so real!
Matti Sedholm  Thank you! It's hard to get a photo like this, because Geisha and Maiko often appear out of thin air (they know all the shortcuts in Gion), and when people see them they come runnning. It's really like a superstar situation, and it's mostly Japanese people too. Surrounded by the mass the Maiko or Geisha usually show pose for a minute, making everybody happy and content.
If one wants a more private photo, it involves at least 3 hours on a streetcorner later in the night, when most of the crowd thinks there's no more to see.
