There is anxiety, and self-doubt. There is the gnawing concern about whether I have achieved all I was capable of, and have provided all the shelter and succor to my loved ones that I might have. There is the awful realization that it's too late now to change much, and also the panic that comes with the knowledge that in some respects I am no longer who I was.

Hope I haven't taken too much liberty with your photograph. I see it this way for three reasons: my own father looked like this and is now gone; my own last name (in spite of my screen name) is the same as yours; and I am somewhere between his age and yours and now beginning to be subject to those demons myself.

If I can steal a phrase from W B Yeats, this photograph has a terrible beauty.
Tracy Martin  My goodness Paulo, I only just saw this comment and it resonates very loudly. Thank you for such kind words.

The technicals are great, but the feeling is what gets me here. You are very good at getting an image to touch the viewer, Tracy.

I am privileged to be allowed to view this image. As a portrait it is stunning, as a moment in time it is unforgettable. Thank you for publishing, Regards Gary
Tracy Martin  Thank you Gary.

I find it very interesting how the line of the shirt collar the shadow within follows the ling of the man's hand. This has a tender quality to it, as if the man were someone you care about. It's a fine portrait that would go well as part of a series.
Tracy Martin  Very astute guesses King, I think I will stick with the three images for now but I have more I might work on for down the road.

Wow. Not what I expected to see when I opened up OE today! Very good shot of him Tracy - captures a lot of what he is going through.
Tracy Martin  I wondered if you still checked OE out or not, now I have my answer. :-)

not sure what to say Tracy, apart from its one of the most powerful portraits that I've seen here at OE. The fact that you have not titled the image has left the viewer to read the story here, fantastic image. mal
Tracy Martin  Thank you Mal, very much. I have always found titling my work difficult, besides trying to choose what I feel is the right title, a title can change how someone else looks at a photo, lead them down a specific path so to speak. If I could get away with it I would hardly title any images of mine as I think that they should speak for themselves, but like anything there are always exceptions and some images beg for a title. ;-)

I am too close to this image to be able to find the right "all-encompassing" word or words. thnx.
wonderful Tracy, no comment!

A very touching portrait, Tracy, you've captured him in a very expressive moment, I guess he is your father, looking at his hands, seen in your 'Age and Loneliness', thank you for sharing this! A really great portrait!
all the best
Codrin
Tracy Martin  Thank you Codrin and you are right, this is my father. The images I took of him posed a unique dilemma for me because the photographer in me wanted to post them for obvious reasons but the daughter in me questioned whether or not I was being fair to my dad. It is hard to watch a loved one age but particularly so when one chooses that his life is all but over. Thank you again Codrin, the very perceptive man that you are. :-)

The fingers make the image to me, and the way the eyes are going in the same direction as the fingers are pointing.
Tracy Martin  My dad talks with his hands quite a bit and my self-portrait (high key one) was a bit of a homage to him. When I was recently back east visiting I tried to get an image of him gesturing in the same way but I couldn't quite manage it. Thanks Ursula.
