Mark, even though I was there to see this being taken, there is such a personal warm feeling to this image that really comes across.
Mark Kitaoka  Tracy, you were there sharing the moment of this image. In a very short amount of time, you have warmed your way into the heart of my family.

He looks kind and she looks strong- preparing for what is ahead.
Mark Kitaoka  Hey Ky, he is truly kind, well when he isn't flying a fighter jet off an aircraft carrier! And you have nailed my aunt, strong as the day is long.

Hi Mark,
great light and beautiful double portrait. A nice couple, i think.
Mark Kitaoka  Thank you Giorgio, my aunt and uncle are beautiful, I simply took their picture.

They look very good together, very happy in a good way. I imagine they're married? It's hard to tell, because they look almost alike, like brother/sister. They say that people who are married a long time end up looking the same (I don't know, my husband and I have been married 31 years, and I haven't sprouted a beard yet).
Mark Kitaoka  Hi Ursula and thanks for taking the time to comment. I took this picture of my aunt Kazy and uncle Harvey on December 16 2007 when Tracy and I went to visit them. My uncle is dying of lymph node cancer and does not have long to live. I was a bit worried that they would not want me to photograph them for many reasons, but was really happy when they enthusiastically said 'Yes' to my request. Being from the generation of Japanese Americans who endured the relocation camps, they are never openly affectionate, so having an image of them in this position is very, very special to me for many reasons. I had this image printed, matted and framed for them and will give it to them for their Christmas present.

They have been married for 45 years. Perhaps in another 14 years you will grow a bit of a beard like your husband...!

Take care and thanks again Ursula,
Mark

Mark Kitaoka  Thank you Ursula, we are all praying Harvey gets to see this Christmas. He is very excited about it.
