Doug--a spectacular image. Pretty much has everything you could ask for in a landscape. I see you got some new equipment--are you happy with it so far? The lens certainly seems to work nicely!
Doug Roane  Thanks, David. The lens and the 5DMII are awesome!

Beautiful light and colors and it seems to be a wonderful place!
Doug Roane  Thanks Ulrik. It was my first trip to Alaska, and I was blessed with 5 days of good weather while backpacking. It was fascinating beyond my expectations!

absolutely tremendous Doug.
What manner of trickery have you employed to achieve an image of such exposure clarity in such difficult lighting conditions, pray tell!
:)
JP
Doug Roane  Thanks John!
It must be the new camera and lens!!! ;-)
Actually, as is common in my processing, rather than use ND grads, I blended exposures manually using layer masks to balance shadows and highlights
John Parminter  Yep, I suspected as much and a fine job of it, I use this technique as well if not using ND grads in preference to HDR, yak!

Doug Roane  Thank you Stan. This image was taken around 7:50 AM. Sunrise was about 6:40 - I had to wait for the sun to come over the peaks. Nice job on your website!

I really like this one, Doug. Balanced lighting throughout, the sunstar really adds another level.
Cheers
Doug Roane  Thanks Ansel. I was camped about 1/2 mile away and previsualized this shot the day before, though too late in the day. Instead of moving camp, we decided to stay, just so I could attempt this shot the next day. Fortunately, all the elements came together.

The sunstar from that 16-35 is just legendary. Perfect image Doug
Doug Roane  Thank you mm. It truly is an amazing lens. This is the new 16-35/2.8L II, which, I'm told, is even better than the first one.
