Milkyway Over Senggigi Beach
Lombok Island in Indonesia still has well-preserved dark sky, free of any kinds of pollution. This picture shows what a truly dark and clear sky will show us. This is the kind of place we should have more anywhere.

I love my 28 2.8 AIS. I am astounded at the stars when I visit Australia after living in Beijing for so long. I forgot just how brilliant the night sky is when away from a big city - in a clean country.
Winston Setiawan  Australia is still by far the best choice for astrophotography. If you use 28/2.8 AIS, you might need to stop down at least to f/4 for best results. Cheers, Winston.

Amazing! How long was the exposure?
winston  The photo is a stack of 10 images, each shot was at 20 secs @ f/4, ISO 6400. Those 10 photos then stacked using Deep Sky Stacker and final adjustment was done in Photoshop.
Frank Steinmann  Did you use some kind of mounting? Probably not, because there is also ground on the photo. But don't the stars move a bit during 200 seconds? Or is it negligible in wide angle photos?
winston  I used Manfrotto ballhead/tripod. Throughout 10 frames, the sky does move, that's fixed during stacking.
