vulgar display of power.... love it!!!
Andres (senor_kasper)  I'll take it as a compliment :-) thank you !!
Leonardo Zevallos  LOL... as a matter of fact, it is a compliment. There is an album named "Vulgar display of power" of the famous rock band PANTERA. The album artwork shows a man being punched in the face with such energy. Your photo reminds me of those crazy years. Powerful and crazy days. I simply love your work. Greetings.

Gasp! WOW! How did I miss this! I just read thru your comments to find the story behind the picture. I haven't seen Joey's, but I have a hard time imaginging it is ANY better than this one. You did a FABULOUS job! It looks like you really caught a perfectly timed action shot at a real fight. Bravo, Andres!
Andres  Believe me, Joey's is better :-)
Thank you for your most kind comment.

Great capture full of action. The time is perfect and the composition amazing!!!
Hey Mr Andres, please, u don't need to thanks this comment ;)
Andres  Jorge, I know I don't have to reply or thank any comment. I genuinely appreciate people taking the time to praise any of my pics, and, unlike dpchallenge, I have no way of doing that with a single statement in this site. Now, when it comes to a comment by you, my defacto photography role model, I MUST say thank you :-)

top clicher picture ? lol not very original
Andres  LOL too. You are right, this is not an original idea, Joey Lawrence did the one that gave me the idea, subsequently, from one of the dpchallenge comments, I learned that David Hill had done it first. I haven't seen other ones but would appreciet it if you pointed them out to me via links. Thank you for your comment.

Wow. I would like to hear the story behind this one.
Andres  Thanks for your comment. The picture was made for a dpchallenge.com contest where it ended up in second place. It is,of course, a setup. The real story is that it is good to have friends that are willing to pose doing this kind of stuff for you. People frequently ask about the 'realistic looking' blood, it is made with corn starch, water and a mixture of burgundy and red food coloring. Jorge (the victim) had a sore neck for several days as a result of the effort, but wanted a print to frame. Thank you again.
Craig Martin  Well, amazing shot is all I can say. I would have guessed that it was real but for your explanation. Well done.
Romanas N.  So he actually did get punched? Because, hell, it looks amazing, and I don't give a damn if it's unique or not, we all at some point borrow ideas and add something different from ourselves. It's called "making an improvement".
Andres  I appreciate the opinion, it certainly would be an accomplishment to improve a Joey Lawrence photo, I am not quite sure I accomplished that with this photo. In case your are not familiar with his, you may see it at www.joeyl.com > commercial > portraits > it will be the 8th one. I almost forgot to answer, no, he did not get punched.
Romanas N.  You know, I actually think you have, but it's a compromise. You see, his photo, which is very fine indeed, is a tad bit more dynamic, at least the movement of the one who is hitting, plus there's more stuff in the air, so to speak.

However, your photograph is far less artificial - the faces, captured by Mr. Lawrence are not as well mimiced, in other words, in your work, it really looks as if a hit was made - the whole face of the poor guy is swollen, deformed in a way that I though a person could not do by himself, he would actually need to be hit. Now that is where YOUR dynamic lies, and it's very fine. The two in Joey's picture are barely frowning, although it is very well captured. Also, the arm of the person hitting is loos, I mean the muscles. Try to compare it to your hitter, and you will see what I mean.

I'll have to make a point against your work now, on the other hand, as I've already taken the role of a critic (and I'm not one, believe you me) :)

Put the loose and not-so-loose muscles aside, the hand of your hitter isn't moving, doesn't give the impression of movement, it lacks the dynamic impression. The face of the "victim" is a little blured by the movement (I believe the aperture had no effect here), and it nicely adds to the photograph, it's just the way it should be. Now if only the arm would look a little less static and a little more so...

But now I'm playing an experienced photographer or at least a critic, and again, I am not. So these details might look different to someone else, or I'm simply too picky. Both works are astonishing and I envy you (that might add something to my salty post). I hope I didn't cross the line, wouldn't want to look like an idiot :))

Best regards and sorry for the mammoth post!
-Rome.
Andres  Your comments are right on the money, I don't disagree with any of what you said and I really appreciate your taking the time to write thoughtfully.
Romanas N.  Be sure, it's a pleasure, besides, something else to do while trying to make a work worthy of 1x. :)
