Philosophical puzzle given a visual expression!
This picture reminds me of the question asked in Indian metaphysics: 'which is dream, which is reality?'

dear Mr Stelander,
I want to say sorry for my reaction a week ago. Not for my opinion over the photo, but for connecting it to my frustration being rejected so often. I should not have done that and I hope you will accept my apologizes.
Regards, Nico Ouburg
Marc  You don't have to say sorry just because you say what you think, being rejected so often is "often" also a reaction when you see such horrible photos posted, then you start to doubt about the real capacities and qualities of the screeners.
The system of screening should be applicated just to make a difference between a candid photo and a different photo.
Often what you see is personal tastes reasons why rejected, I do believe that even a photo of Sally Mann would be rejected here considering the unexperienced view of the screeners.
I have 2 photos rejected, I don't care, I'm appreciated elsewhere in photo.net, but when I see the screeners's photos then I would also have rejected 80% of their photos.
This system creates frustrations and hate between photographers, not because they have to grow, but just because they do not follow the same vision of the screeners and this creates conformism, stupidity, deja-vu.... it is not a photographer who will judge a photo but the pubblic.
And finaly all the photos who are not rejected remain unappreciated, so what's the deal.

Cheers

Marc
Ralf Stelander  This photo was published a long time ago when the screening criteria were different. I agree on some of your points. There's no noise in the photo however, it's the natural grain from T-max 400 film. About impact and message perhaps you missed the point with the persons being reflected in the window, it's a philoshpical standpoint about different perspectives in interpreting the world. The main person is inside, but who is really being excluded? Think about it a little longer and give it your own meaning. I know a lot of people are frustrated over rejects, I've had mine as well. Try to focus on the positive and shoot more pictures instead!

I am sure that if this was my photo it would have been rejected with the following arguments:
impact
building on the right is not vertical
flat
noise

This sounds frustrated? That correct, that's what the screening of several photo's (some of them have been published in Dutch photo magazines) has done to me.

bye, Nico

Very well seen, captured and titled, Ralf.
Ralf Stelander  Thank you so much, as always it means a lot coming from you. What I've tried to achieve is a sense of not really knowing who is the observer and who belongs to the real world.
