I think it is absurd for people to criticize an HDR image since B/W is a valid format. Neither are representative of reality but they both have their place. I think since HDR is so new there is a lot of experimenting going on and some of the images are not up tp the same level as B/W or regular colour images yet. Give it time and we will see amazing HDR work.

The only question should you should ask yourself is: "Does the image move me?"
Roger  i agree with you mario. and i think HDR in some way is the future. one of the things with digital that i have a real problem with, is the dynamic range. with better tools or even cameras dealing with this issue, it would be far easier to produce "real looking" images. although i wasn't aiming for that in this shot.

Roger, I am happy to know it is a HDR shot, but that's not the matter, the result is very beautiful, the effect of HDR in the water is very nice and totally different than with a long exposure. I love the yellow spot in the background. A superb landscape. Love it !
Fernand
Roger  thank you again fernand. i'm glad ya like it. HDR's are not everyone's cup of tea. at least when treated like this with strong colors. i agree with you that it's the result that matters. and i have some HDR's in my gallery that noone would think of as HDR :)

for me, the colors are totally unbelievable and detract.
Roger  the colors were never meant to be "real" looking, it that's what ya mean?

its difficult with hdr/tonemapping - some people realy like it. My opinion is in b/w or normal it would look better
Roger  i agree it's difficult with HDR. sometimes, like in this case, i go for over saturated colors and quite heavy tonemapping. at other times, i use it very carefully and one would find it quite hard to tell it's an HDR. to me it's all about the vision i have and i use many different techniques to get there.
MarkJ  i think this tells the contradictory truth about hdr/tm, all the less you see it - the better it gets
Roger  in some cases yes, in other cases no. it all depends. i can appreciate an heavily tonemapped HDR as much as an old B&W print. to me it doesn't matter as long as i like the photograph. although i'm aware of that there's a lot of HDR's out there that are not very appealing, and that TM is not everyone's cup of tea.
