sacro oblio
Photo series by Sven Fennema
On my way to abandoned places I've made several trips through italy so far. I love the country and the people and of course the fantastic food and wine, but also especially the forgotten places. Sometimes I run into derelict churches and chapels and I have to say they absolutely fascinate me. Nearly every bigger place seems to have or had it's own chapel, no matter if it's a villa or palace, a hospital or an orphanage. It's impressive how different styles in architecture, state or decoration you find. So I think a great way to present them is with photo series of a selection of chapels and churches I visited in italy.

I really like this series Sven - and for me as a pastor it is very interesting to see these images from abandoned churches and chapels but also a bit sad. Excellent work!
Sven Fennema  Thank you very much Brin! I didn't know, yes it's often sad to see, but there is also something that I find impressive, in italy, even if the places are vandalized already or have graffiti and destruction, in most cases the churches or chapels stay preserved.

Fantastic - must say #9 is my favourite. #6 distortion gives a wonderful effect!!
Sven Fennema  Thank you much Kevin! The #9 is the chiesa in an old ophanage - the 6. is a calculation of a 360° panorama, if you like to look at the full view: http://sven-fennema.de/pano/redcross/

Swen, a good idea you have had here...and you have brought out the best I think in each of them.....amazing what the Vatican must of spent to build these churches because no detail is left undone. Very beautiful. Congratulations. Phyllis
Sven Fennema  Thank you so much Phyllis, indeed, and it's crazy how many churches there are overall, the tiniest village has a church with artificial interieur

A nice story... and sad at the same time. So much of beauty dying. And needed by nobody. Thank You, Sven! Actually, for me and most probably for others too it would be more interesting to know the name of the place and to see the building itself from outside before going in:) I guess You have such pictures. Maybe some day...?:)
Sven Fennema  Thank you very much Eglis! Well showing outsides is mostly not an option for me, I often don't even take an outside shot, only if the photo could be really interesting

Wow! Great! How beautiful the series have built in the mid-points.
Sven Fennema  Thanks a lot Jeannette! Yes I thought about how to connect the series as their actual look is so different, so I decided to focus on mid views
