Hi Denis,
Another pretty close to perfect addition to your series and nice to read some information about your setup & techniques.

Grtz,
Roeselien
Dennis Binda  tnx Roeselien, did you get any keepers from the owl shoot?

cheers, Dennis
Roeselien Raimond  Nope, unfortunately not. Too far away and hardly any light.
I bet you did, though? ;)

great image! what is the shutter speed? thanks (:
Dennis Binda  the shutter speed is set by the flashes and not by the camera. I use 3 flashes on the flower and one on the printed background. In this setup I used 4 SB-700 Nikon speedlights in slave mode, contrlled by the SU-800 comander in the hotshoe of the camera. All the speedlights are set in manual mode. I use 1/16 on the speedlights and that gives me about 1/8000s shutterspeed time which is enought to freeze any motion. All flashes are set to manual mode and exposure is 3 stops lower than the ambient light. If you turn of the flashes your picture should be pitch dark. The less ambient light the better. Best way to to use a setup like this is under a roof, less ambient light and no problem with the rain. If you ever have the chance give it a try, to me this is big fun. You can get creative with the background, the flowers you use and the way you set up the flashes. You can even create backlit pictures.

Hope this helps,

Long billed hermit? Maybe not--please tell the species. Also, if you could bring yourself to do a tutorial on how these fantastic pictures are taken, this would be very much appreciated. Please keep them coming.

Splendid catch, Dennis !
Wonderful tack-sharp image in clear colors and a superb background !

Henrik
Dennis Binda  Tnx Henrik, I'm not sure if you're familiar with the setup/technique but the flower is sugarwater bated and the background is a print otherwise it won't work with the flashes. A small studio setup in the open but a lot of fun to do!!

cheers, Dennis
Henrik Just  Thanks a lot for information, Dennis !
Interesting to read about the technique.
I have to admit that I thought it was made out in the open in "semi-natural" surroundings, but I suspected that the flower was chosen and bated because of a perfect natural background.
Is it captured in the Netherlands, Costa Rica or..... ?

regards

Henrik
Boris Godfroid  Interessant, bedankt! Met een mooi resultaat ;-).
