It's rare to see everything thrown out of focus in a shot of any kind. I think you've used the effect very appropriately though. Indeed, a lack of focal point has created one. I like the way the highlights pointillise; an interesting effect that I've always seen and been fond of in video, as lights in a city are brought into or thrown out of focus. Good stuff!
