sacrificial offering
The child has to sacrifice his hair in order to relief a disease. He was crying so much and suffering for the loss of hair. This scene is happen in front of the Kalighat Temple and a usual one for Hindi believers. Hairs will grow again and the disease also will go away. The experience for the child i cannot say.

There are lots of story behind the sacrifice of hair in india
e.g. when a person died every gents member of his family have to do the sacrifice of hair in order to give him peace. In india hair is taken as a medium to serve god so whenever a person commit something to god after the fulfillment of his desires he has to give his hair in front of god. So like this everyone has their reason.

Robert...the things you have seen and learned in India are truly remarkable....I don't even understand the connection between losing hair and losing disease....it must be related to the gods I am guessing...an offering? Anyhow what a good documentary moment you have found here. Congratulations. Phyllis

Good one again Robert!
Yes, various reasons for this including the belief that it will help strengthen the roots for better hair, expose the scalp for some time to the sun for some benefits among many others depending on the region :)
Robert  Yes you are right and surely i do not understand all what they doing. Even till date i know a lot of some rituals and habits. I asked a hindu priest why they doing this and he told me the child is ill for a long time. Nothing serious he said but they believe it help. Thank you!
