Optimistic Outlook
Photo series by John Parminter
I think optimism is a good trait to have in general and it pays to have it when pursuing landscape photography.
I've selected five images in a series that hopefully demonstrates optimism.
I had planned to photograph Ben Nevis at dawn for a long time and finally got the opportunity when conditions were optimum.
I set of very early in the dark for a two hour walk to the summit of Carn Mor Dearg but it wasn't looking promising with strong winds and thick racing clouds over the tops but I carried on and persevered.
I reached my vantage point with a few minutes to spare before the Sun rose above the surrounding hills but there was very thick cloud obscuring the view I hoped to photograph, would all my effort be in vain?
Slowly, as the Sun rose, the clouds lifted and broke up to reveal the view that I had hoped for, my optimism had paid off.

really an excellent series of photos John, the 4th is my favorite for touch of light on the summit :-)
however these shots are all excellent, as a faithful document of the ephemeral mutability of weather up there, on the mountains... one aspect that we, climbers, love so much!
compliments
bye :-)
John Parminter  Thanks for your comment Roberto

Gruss Franz

Beautiful series John, your effort stood behind great result , you´v taken very spectacular scene, the birth of the new day on the very top of the mountain ridge, love each one of them, but the second is my favorite, great light and burning cloud made this one special for me.Thanks for sharing

Great series that perfectly demonstrates the continuously changing nature of light. Really enjoyed watching the peak appear slowly out of the clouds. My personnel preference is the 3rd one I think with the summit peaking out of clouds and lit by the sun.
John Parminter  Thanks Esen

John, a very beautiful series - and it shows how nature is changing in every second. Picture number two is my fave of the group - so dramatic...glad you were able to achieve what you had set out for...and I agree optimism helps us all. :) Phyllis
John Parminter  No.2 has a charm and was quite spectacular when the Sun rose and lit up the rolling mist, cheers Phyllis.

A great series of shots. No. 4 is my favourite with the light hitting the top of the Ben. I am looking forward to the winter version of this series :) How long was there between exposures ?
John Parminter  no.1 at sunrise, no.5 about 45 minutes later.

Proof that landscape photography can be a very dynamic and ever changing scene. More to the point, it illustrates how one can be lucky or unlucky if the timing is not precise. Lovely series John.
John Parminter  Indeed Andre, I know all about the unlucky as well......

Thanks

What a nice series, John. I am a bit skeptical of the series feature here, however you have made it work quite nicely with pleasant soft light and rugged features in each segment. Cheers

Impressive series of photos John I particularly like nos 2 and the way the cloud holds the orange light from the morning sun. What I learn by looking at this is that without an enormous effort in terms of time & money spent between the two places & a huge amount of luck I will not be attempting this type of photography unless I move closer. But having said that your efforts are temptation enough to explore the chances of moving closer if only for a month or so! And when I was there in 199? I could get up to the summit because of bad weather!
John Parminter  Appreciate it Gerard

Congrats, John, beautiful serie; looks like familiar environment with narrow window to make photos to me :-) All the best!
John Parminter  North face of Ben Nevis Matjaz, familiar to most climbers I'd say.
