While Hiking thru the amazing Waimea Canyon, on the Island of Kauai, I was treated to this incredible site. The light was sweeping across this tree in a catch light sort of ghosting manner. What great light to stumble upon! The incline for which I set up the tripod was quite dangerous. Just behind the tree was a 1500' shear drop. One of the more nerve racking shots I've ever taken, as the camera and I slowly slide towards the ledge. The sun was at a point in the sky where the shear cliffs behind the tree were in shadow, isolating the plateau area where I stood. The hi-res file has such amazing fine details.

*Some technical processing notes:
The tree is lit with a relfective orange clay in the foreground. The background is a lush green mountain side shaded by the sun. I shot with a Hasselblad H3D-39 with a strong red filter darkening the greens and letting the reds pass lighter. Additionally I shot with a graduated green filter reversed to darken the bright red foreground. I further accentuated the effect when converted to black and white by adjusting the WB and and channel balance. (Using a technique in BW conversion similar to what Vincent Versace is doing)
