Is this one of your regulars, or did you approach him/her to take the photo?

Steve Hill FiFi was a complete stranger I encountered while entering the Christopher Street subway station. He/she agree to a pic, I suggested the pose and snapped a few just as the train arrived. I'm experimenting with somewhat formal posing of total strangers in order to extract something raw, a little informal but genuine and with environmental context. No preparation... and if it works... KaPow!

Kim Ayres While plenty of photography of strangers (or even friends and loved ones) is about the candid shots, being the observer, my preference has always been making the connection between the photographer and the subject through the camera - staring down the barrel of the lens. Photographing someone busy doing something else is like wildlife photography - better if they are ignorant of your presence. But it takes a different set of skills to engage with a person and bring them on board to create that connection with you, the photographer, and thus any viewer of the photo. It's what I love about the photography of Andre, Robert and you :)
