Nothing Gold Can Stay
Nothing Gold Can Stay

by Robert Frost

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold,
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Ursula...Robert Frost..my favorite American poet...and so he has inspired you to create? :) I love Aspen trees..but there are NONE were I live..Can you ship some? I like the way they come out in a blend..like this...delicate. I will have to settle for oaks and dogwoods..because I took the road less traveled. :))) Aspens pan nicely too......Congratulations....Phyllis
Ursula I Abresch  Thank you, Phyllis. Aspens do pan nicely, although I really like panning pines (hehe, now there's a title, "panned pines"). Anyway. Especially the tall lodgepoles with their purple overtones, and the beautiful ponderosas. I don't think you have either of those in the East, do you? You know, I would think that oaks and dogwoods would offer a lot of possibilities of other camera movements, such as circular maybe ...
Phyllis Clarke  Smiling Ursula..yes Oaks and Dogwoods actually do make good circular pans...I would know..having about 5000 of them now..I will tell you that story another day. I am in search of the perfect pan. :)
Ursula I Abresch  Cool, some day I want to hear about this :)

Somehow you are able to manipulate these images to make something quite special now while other mere mortals conjure up dogs dinners now I know why I needn't try to mimic or better your efforts because even though I would love to be able to turn ordinary forest scenes into something resembling the beauty that is displayed here you do it so much better. And I don't need to know how. Another fine offering Ursula set to a piece by one of the most descriptive & philosophically deep of modern English speaking poets.
Ursula I Abresch  Gerard, thank you for your words. I wanted to say though, your pictures are so beautiful, Gerard, we all make things in different ways and I think it is great to have this variety, this way that we can see the world through other people's eyes through pictures. I love it that way! I hope that makes sense :)

You paint everything don't you?
Ursula I Abresch  :) I think of the camera as my pencils and brush! Thank you.
Sebastian Kisworo  do you have tutorial how to brush?
Ursula I Abresch  No, I don't. Maybe one of these days I'll work on creating such a tutorial. It's a lot easier to do things than to try to explain how to do things :)
Jovelino  pleaaase, Ursula, DO THAT tutorial ..... PLEEAAAAASE :)

Hi Ursula
how you've done I do not know:)
but it looks beautiful
Ursula I Abresch  It is a blending of 2 images in PS. Both are pictures of birch trees (aspen) in Fall, thus the green/gold/brown tones. One picture is in focus, the other is vertically panned (made at slow shutter speed while moving the camera up/down). The colour comes from the panned image, the structure from the in focus image.
keller  Thanks for the explanation:)

Ursula I'll be honest, I do not like it,

too busy, too much "pointless" colors, and nothing to make it stand out. The poem on the other hand is really nice.

btw, cropping just a tiny bit from the left would make this much better (removing the white tree on the border)
Jovelino  different point of views makes life richer, Fadi :)
to me, this image is art, pure poetry, only reachable by a few talented ones
Fadi Tarawneh  Well art is very subjective, I like this kind of shots a lot, however I am not seeing what others see in this one, of course this is a matter of opinion and as I said very subjective.
Ursula I Abresch  Thank you for your opinion, Fadi. I never expect pictures such as this one to be liked by all. On the contrary, I am glad when some don't like it. I disagree with you about the crop. I think without the left edge (the white tree by the border), the image becomes a lot more static; having that edge makes it slightly unsettling. I like that. It goes with my thoughts for the image.

A very interesting vision of the nature and unusual look at the forest. Color and structure works here for me first of all. Reflective photo. Gold is passing ..
Ursula I Abresch  Yeah, reflective. It's the mood I am in lately, and the mood I'm trying to depict. Thank you.
