Kiyomizudera Pagoda
I am trying to find new angles on photographing Japanese buddhist temples, believing that the architecture holds the fundamental principals of buddhism in themselves.
If one is exposed to these places over and over, I am confident one will over time become a better human being. I would like to show these things to people unable to visit themselves.
The image is converted to black and white, contrast enhanced in CS2 curves along with a little vignetting at the top. I also added some sharpening.

I tried to catch temple details in colour. Looking at this photo I think that maybe your B&W approach is better. Nevertheles the topic is rather hermetical and not everyone is interested in it. But... we do take pictures for ourselves!
All the best,
J.
Matti Sedholm  Thank you for your words, Jacek. You're right when you speak about taking pictures for our selves, and hermetical topics. A lot of times the viewer doesn't share the same references and a photo that is special to me means nothing to somebody else. But, as you so truthfully points out, we do take them for our own sake first and foremost. When I see your work it inspires me to point the camera towards my daily surroundings, and not things new and exotic. I guess it's very easy to become "home blind".

I used a black and white approach to try and cut to the essence of the structure and not make another postcard. Even though I like photographs like that as well, if they're good.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.
All the best. Matti
