This portrait is deeply moving. The facial expression is one of pride and resolve. The hands and the cane reflect a great deal of suffering, but the cane is far away from him and his hands are at his knees. He looks directly into the lens without shyness, facing life, He has not given up, still reading the newspaper, still involved in the world. There is an arc of light over his head on the wall and his shadow reflected there ~ as if to say ~ I am still here and there is still life within me.

Zoltan...I find this a very moving capture. I can identify with two things very clearly..he is a person with a good deal of inner strength and he is has grown old. He has known some suffering, but he is still moving on with life. Just when my heart wants to break for him, I can see his eyes saying...no..I am okay. It is rare that I find a photo in color that does this to me..it is a very memorable picture for me...I wish I knew him. :) Congratulations. Phyllis
