Glaring Hippo
The hippopotamus is responsible for more deaths in Africa than any other mammal, including predators. Coming face-to-face at eye-level with one of these behemoths via a small boat is intimidating to say the least.

Nice one Morkel. I took a similar shot in Namibia from a small boat, so I can relate to the intimidation factor. A few days later I got chased by a hippo while in that same boat - they are incredibly fast in the water, scary fast.

Good choice to go for bw - looks good. I wonder what the OOF grey vertical line is just to the left of the hippo though, and the two brighter ones inside the reflection.
Morkel Erasmus  Thanks for your comments Marsel, they are always more than appreciated. The OOF line to the left is coming from the reflection of reeds behind the hippo, but the ones in front are actually OOF grass blades between myself and the beast...

Responsible for more deaths in Africa than any other mammal - except man, surely?
Not the sort of statistic we should be proud of as a species obviously...
The hippo, like the other predators, acts merely on instinct.
Sadly, humans habitually act on jealousy, bigotry and hatred.
Absolutely awesome, intensely engaging shot of an extraordinary creature, Morkel.
What a fantastic moment for you.
Now shared with us.
Morkel Erasmus  I fully agree Benjamin. We are the ones responsible for most...yet we do it out of volition and greed, like you so rightly point out. Hippos will only attach if they feel threatened, they are actually herbivores.
