Guinness
Much of the area surrounding Lough Tay (Lake Tea in English) lies within the Guinness family estate. Rumor has it that the white sand was brought in to provide the necessary contrast to bring out the lake's color, which resembles that of Guinness, the beer. The very dark brown color is actually tanin staining from peat bogs in the river's upper catchment area.
