I took this photo in the beginning of January 2009 and it was the last photo I took of this beautiful old rural church "Krýsuvíkurkirkja". One year later on New Years Day 2010 it burned down.

How was your trip to Iceland?

Karen Van Eyken My husband and I loved every second of our trip to Iceland! We drove to Höfn and back and enjoyed the Skaftafell NP, Jökusarlon glacier lagoon, the surroundings of Vik, Geysir and the Reykjanes Peninsula. We hope to return in a few years to do the whole Ring road.

May you kindly tell us the reason behind burning,the area seems and looks so desolate and uninhabited.

It's a lovely shot, Bragi...but with only 4.5 hours of Icelandic daylight you were able to have a lie-in :) I had 8 hours 65km NW of London

Pointless vandalism from what I read in 'Ice News'...so very sad

Brin...so desolate it feels like a moonscape or the end of the world..very unusual rock formations. Sorry about the church of course...sad really - but then all of what there is - is impermanent..and so..congratulations on this capture. Phyllis
