I tried some new timings and got this shape. Crazy how the drops are thrown around, along the upcoming splash.

I used a microcontroller board which makes it possible to give exact timing for drop generation and triggering flashes + camera. Drops are generated by a solenoid valve.

I used 3 flashes here, 2 from behind and one from beside the drops.
