Nice work here. I like the way you lit the fabric--it's just well done all the way around; and congratulations to your model.

Question, was the dancer working with a prop that was used in a performance?...presumaly with the dancer wearing more clothing, but perhaps not. I've seen old-time live burlesque dancers who might use something like this as part of their act.

Another question...are you a dancer yourself, amateur or professional?

KK1 Hello. Yes this is Holly. She is probably the most inspirational & excellent model I've been lucky enough to work with. We used 3 different lighting techniques for the session. You may be thinking of the Bluebell Girls introduced to The Lido, Paris in the 1930's I think. However this image was shot for my on-going 'wings' project. Holly just happened to have what are known as Isis wings used in belly dancing. The reason for no clothing was purely because I thought they would complicate the image. Many thanks for the question. Lack of costume doesn't need justification, especially in a photo such as this.

I'm a retired dancer (Boston Ballet & many other professional gigs) and recognize dancers when I see them. This is probably the most dancer-like pose I've seen Holly in. I'm very interested to know that she has studied belly dancing and has probably performed, as well.
