Semiramis
According to legend, Semiramis was the daughter of the sea-goddess Derketo of Ascalon and a mortal. Her mother, Derketo abandoned her at birth and drowned herself. The child was fed by doves until she was found and brought up by Simmas, the royal shepherd.

Sounds ironic that this ship, named after her, seems to have met Derketo in her watery grave, rusting quietly to oblivion on a rocky beach in Andros Island.

... or maybe not so quietly. We kept her company for 4 mornings and afternoons waiting for a break in the sky and had the chance to hear her moaning as she settled deeper into the sea. Imagining the thunderous noise of her impact upon the rocks on the day her journey ended was unavoidable. As is her fate.

Very fascinating picture and explanation (we too in Italy have been brought up with many of the Egiptian, in this case, and Greek myths the land of your photos, ... in many cases part of our culture)

I like very much the texture of the water and composition. The rocks in the foreground make a great sense of depth.

Wow, beautiful. Great control of the light, and excellent contrast/tonal range. Composition feels a little "centered," but sometimes images just work better that way, despite whatever "rules" there are about composition.

How long was the exposure, if you don't mind my asking?
Mary Kay  Hello Gabe! Yes, I was a bit worried about making a centered composition but it was the only one that felt right given the place. A bit to the right and there was lots of empty space, a bit to the left and I would have to include too much of the mountain and distant mainland. The exposure is 480s long (I used the Lee Big Stopper)

Wonderful photo with an interesting story. It has, to me, a great feeling of sadness too. Well photographed.
