The School Run
This was taken at the Tough Guy Championships just 2 miles from my home. This area is known as the killing feilds which is part of a 10k course though fire and freezing cold water, this is towards the end of the 10k, by the time the competitors got here they looked dead.

Shot with D3 + 200f2 lens and SB900 setting the WB to 3200k to add to the cold look, daytime temp was -8 and starting to snow, next morning 12 inches of snow had fallen.

There is so much to see in this photo. I like how there is a stamp on 'tough guys' head, and the background looks like some kind of desolate wasteground. It is especially cool how the fence goes diagonally, leading to the had on the ground.
Tony D  Thank you Gordon

I thought I had added my voice to the chorus of admirers, but although I had seen the photo and thought it superb..I was seemingly to shy to write anything!
Tough Guy indeed, superbly photographed, just the right dash of flash.
Tony D  No need to be Shy Paula and i appriciate your comments seeing as you enjoy Sports photography so much.
Best Regards

This Is a cracking action shot. Everything about this is spot on and I like how you have captured him leaning in the direction of the fence. Inspiring work. :)

Great job Tony! you have captured the intensity very well here. the expression on his face says it all.

ps. did you use a brolly or softbox? I don't see any harsh shadows. great job if this was with bare flash.
Tony Dudley  No it is bare flash on camera in TTL/BL mode

Thank you

Splendid composition, and editing Tony. Being not partial to flash, indeed very interesting to read how you enhanced this already 'cold' look. Well done with a most unusual photograph - not only in content wise, but 'feel' wise.
Tony Dudley  Thank you Andre im new here as you may have noticed, but i was pleased to see your recent forum post about todays images on the front page, i feel honoured by youe comments even if not aimed at my images in perticular.

Thanks

Tony
Andre du Plessis  No seriously! Did you se that bird shaking it's head at 700 RPM, or the naked girl with the hairy little horse, or the Big family with the dolls in such superb gritty mono, or the OOF nun in the BG with the fragile girl in the FG (of course you will), or the diptych of Fitra, or the clown of hardibudi, or the sleepy dog of Tomer. And that only covers the last 2 days for me. Variety and spice.
Tony Dudley  Well thank you then beacuse you mentioned one of my images (the nun)
i feel very privaliged.

Super! But brrrrrr... very cold!

I was watching the story without having read and thought how did you light so well wonderful! Beautifully done with the SB900! It looks like a scene from a movie in terms of light. It's really beautiful! Now that I see, I go more with my flash moving images, see if I manage that!I will need to practice a lot! (Smile)
Tony Dudley  Simple really, set your cameras WB to around 3000 to 3200k, add the orange (Tungsten filter) to the fron of your flashgun which converts it from Daylight 5600k to tungsten, and that is it.
Simples.
Jeannette Oerlemans  Thank you very much Tony! I have the SB800 and he has also a orange tungsten filter, I never used it! Now I go try it out!
Tony Dudley  Give it a go you will like the effect if it does not work out email me
Jeannette Oerlemans  I will do that Tony, thank you!
