Excellent capture and great lights. May I ask where this picture has been taken? I will be in Bergen in February for a conference, any chance I can see the northern lights there?
Oystein Lunde Ingvaldsen  Thank you, Jan! This picture is taken in Bø in Vesterålen, North of Norway... close to Lofoten, between Bodø and Tromsø. In order to see the Northern Lights you SHOULD go above the arctic circle, but it CAN be visible in Bergen if there has been a solar outburst from h...! I have friends that saw the lights down there this fall. I dont´think there is anybody who´s looking for northern lights on a daily basis in Bergen, but yes, it CAN be seen. But it´s rare and you would have to go out of the city to escape the strong light pollution. I wish you luck! Bergen is a nice city, both of my parents are from there so I have all my relatives in the city.

Cheers.
Jan Gravekamp  Thanks a lot Oystein, I am travelling a lot to Norway, unfortunately my stop is Stavanger which is not the most interesting part of your beautiful country... I think I will bring my camera.

Thanks again
Jan

these shots are amazing Oystein. I owe myself a trip up there to see this. It's fascinating. I wonder how often do they happen? is it something you see everyday or you have to be lucky to see them? I mean, if I ever go up there i wouldn't like to miss them because they would be one pretty much the main reason to be there in winter.
Oystein Lunde Ingvaldsen  Hi Nicolas and thank you! I think that seeing the northern lights is truly one of the most wonderful things we human beings can see... It´s USUALLY solar activity most of the time, more or less. The biggest problem is the weather that tend to suck most of the time :) Well, not really. The weather has been really nice this winter but it has not been a lot of nights with clear sky and northern lights, but as you can see we have had some. My four pictures on 1x.com are taken from november 24th to this one, shot january 11th 2011 with my full frame camera... Of course I have more pictures on my webpage from this time period. I´m having a lot of fun with it. I had one visitor from New York this winter, a female jazz singer... she stayed for 2 days and she got to see some stunning lights. Lucky with that one. Then my in laws came to visit for 2 weeks this christmas and they got to see the lights at the very end of their vacation (check out my Blog for photos), but the solar activity was unusually low this christmas. Then I was out with a photographer from Uppsala/Sweden the other night and he was also very lucky and got to see and photograph the auroras. If you ever choose to come, I would recommend to schedule so there will be a full moon to light up the landscape when you´re here... You COULD risk being here for 4 weeks and not se anything, but then you´d have some extremely bad luck! :) And if you come to Northern Norway you could always photograph whales and eagles if there´s no solar activity... we have a beautiful scenery around here. Check out my friends homepage http://roysamuelsen.1x.com for GREAT photos from Northern Norway!

Cheers!
Nicolas Marino  thanks a lot for this very valuable information Oystein! whenever I finally decide to go there, i'll let you know :)

Don't know what to say Oystein except for stunning, but that counts for all your great images of aurora borealis.
A great joy to look at. Thanks for sharing.

Best regards, Harry
Oystein Lunde Ingvaldsen  Thank you, my friend! I´m having a lot of fun with it :) Btw, i DIG your photos of the puffins, northern gannets and eagles. We have A LOT of them just where I live so I know what to do when the dark time is over and the midnight sun sets in :) Thank you for great inspiration.

Cheers
Harry Eggens  You're welcome Oystein my friend. My pleasure :D

I am truly envious on you being so close to all those beautiful birds up there, not to speak about the Aurora, which I sofar only have seen once during a trip to Haines in Alaska.
Might have to come to your place someday so you can show me around :-)
Thanks a lot for the information :D

Cheers, Harry
