see your portfolio indicates an attraction to "street" characters. Maybe man-pointing would have had some merit if it were not for the car in the way (yes, I saw your comment re: car). An immediate reject for me, yet it is "published" here...
Steve Hill  You can't see the forest for the trees. Good thing for me...right? Listen to Codrin... the car is perfect because it was there, exactly where it belongs. Some people call that reality. Good Luck.
Tuna  My, my. So defensive. Then why are we, including Codrin, having to talk about it? And, why do you care? It's only my opinion, right? Just an opinion on the quality of images that occasionally get "published" - in this case a poor one.
Steve Hill  I don't suffer fools easily but more so, it's really bad form to cut down published works. Not a good show of class and if you get something published, you will understand. BTW went to your flickr site.

As always great stuff from you Steve! James Brown's 'I feel good' is running through my head now! Btw...what has the car with such an excellent image? It's just perfect where it is, who cares very much about it? And it's a very nice Ford... :) Cheers!
Steve Hill  Codrin-Thanks for the comment and I agree... I love the car, it adds character and lends truth to the view. BTW you comment is also a very welcome cancellation of the comment that followed... heheheheh, Cheers!

So cool pose!
Steve Hill  Yeah... the real deal with that guy. If I'm not wrong I believe he's a security guard/doorman at a single room, flophouse type of residence on The Bowery. It's a strange part of NYC and stranger at around 6AM, when I took the shot.

nice shot Steve, I remember it. Love the smile of the guy on the left.
Steve Hill  Thanks Lev. Yep...an oldie but a goodie.
Lev Tsimring  darn, I meant on the right ...Well, on the left, too :)

:) Congratulations! What is "CBGB" and "OMFUG"?
Steve Hill  Country Bluegrass Blues and Other Music For Uplifting Gormandizers.
Steve Hill  Other Music For Urban Gormandizers and I heard Underground was another possibility BUT Urban seems to be the correct one.
Ursula I Abresch  :) Funny names. Thank you!

Damn niggers! I f***ing love them! Awesome shot!
Steve Hill  Serge-I assume you don't know that the "N" word is quite offensive and really bad form?
Serge Sh  Personally I think there is no such thing as bad words. Just words - mere tools. And I also know that they actually call themselves like this, aren't they?
Steve Hill  Yes, the stupid people with little education still do use the word but that doesn't make it correct considering how many people died (literally) to kill off that word and ALL that is associated with it. It's bad form....get that straight...end of discussion.
Serge Sh  Hmm. Thanks for explanation.
Noah Stephens  Serge, don't listen to Steve. As a certified Nigger, I can tell you that black people love to be called niggers...especially in Harlem, South Central and Detroit. Especially at night. When its only you and niggers on the street.

Many large niggers especially like to be called niggers by people who are significantly smaller than they are.

You should DEFINITELY come to the states and tells a few niggers how much you love them. Being the oblivious European that you are, I'm sure they will be more than happy to acquaint you with the word's etymology and proper usage.

Regarding the image, I like the color palette, the moment, and the texture presented by the concrete, stickered-over lightpost and the brick wall. Its not the most impactful image, but it works. Plus, the guy in the photo looks like he might be Biz Markie... which is cool because I here CBBG is a legendary spot for music in NYC.

Not bad, Steve.

I miss CBGB's. I grew up just a few blocks away. I saw the Ramones, Patti Smith, the Talking Heads and so many other great bands there. Thanks for posting this little piece of history.
Steve Hill  Cheers, glad you like it. Gone but not forgotten.

Steve - just CBGB's alone is a cultural iconic image which opens the floodgates of memories - for so many of us. The New York-er in the shot - brings the energy that is in the 'air' in NYC into the pixels here..Steve you have a keen eye! I might add it is quite a nice change to see a street shot in color. :) Congratulations on this capture. Phyllis
Steve Hill  There it is. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that the car is bugging the shizzle out of some folks but...it was there, true to the scene... keepin it real.
Phyllis Clarke  I don't get the car part?? I think the phrase 'bugging the shizzle' though..I gotta remember that one.
Steve Hill  This is a shot from '05 or'06 and I remember getting a comment somewhere "this would be a good shot if the car wasn't there"... I'm assuming there are a number of 1x members who feel the same way.

His the man :) great picture Steve.
Steve Hill  Thanks Ricky. I should post some info on the shot but it was taken at around 6AM on a Saturday morning when people were leaving the afterhours clubs in the East Village.
Ricky Siegers  For me you don't have to post the info, let the audience use their imagination.
The story (situation) are comunicative enough. I like the gesture from the guy :)
And you did great with this picture Steve.
