The Shadow
© Wico
Photographed 05:27 in the morning when the first sun rays comes thru the woods, from a burst of frames i luckily got this one where the wolf cast his shadow on the tree which wasn't planned in advance it was a bonus which made the shoot i think :)

First i really liked the shoot, then i didn't like it, and got bored really quick on the photo, i had it on my hdd for some months now but thought i try to upload it here on 1x and would very much like your comments.

EV settings in camera -1 1/3 and spot metering to make the bg pitch black.

This shot say's it all. This is what The wolf is an Elusive Shadow. It dosen't. get any better than that. Reminds me of a painting by Robert Bateman "Midnight Wolf" Congrats on a truly spectacular image.

Great how you've captured the Wolf in this perfect composition Wico.
Just love the light coming from the right side and the shadow of the wolfs head on the tree.
A real beauty. Thanks for sharing.

Best regards, Harry
Wico  Thanks alot harry, appreciated!
Harry Eggens  You're welcome Wico. My pleasure.

Best regards and have a great weekend,

Excellent.
Very nice image, but it seems very unnatural that only the tree and the wolf are illuminated there. Did you colored black the rest of the image?
Wico  No, i used minus 1 & 1/3 EV and spotmetering. It was early morning and first light coming thru in the woods so it makes big different in light coming thru here on the wolf and not so much light behind him that all it takes to make the bg black.

Octavian Radu Topai  Than it is a better image! Wolf coming in the frame...

Yep, I know the feeling.
Sometimes it's good to let some shots simmer on the HDD for a while and then come back to them.
Glad you did btw, stunning shot!

It looks like a strobist shot to me.
Wico  Nope no strobe, i have taken down the exposure just little bit in lightroom to make the background pitch black.
EDIT:
Just looked in LR i thought about another wolf image i had edited, actually i did put +0.35 EV on this shoot and the BG was pitch black straight out of camera. And a little bit of crop. Nothing else.

Sean Reidy  Thanks for the clarification Wico. The final result is very striking. One to be proud of.
