ARABESQUE ON THE LAND
China has plenty of cultivated land, however in no other place had we ever met such scenery!
Nature modelled the landscape and mankind has in the course of century carved its deep trace.

The distribution of precipitation and water resources in this country depend of the topograpy and to the monsoon.

Clouds and fog transformed in rainfalls flow into innumerable watercourses which through a web of artificial drainage channels is carried by the farmers towards the villages, providing the necessary source for their daily lives. Any excess water ends up in the rice fields below which through an ingenious regulating system drains away from the highest terrace bringing it to the one in the lowest point.

It is calculated that in order to cultivate a kilo of rice around 3000 to 10000 litres of water are needed. The spectacular mountainous rice fields of South-West China, ingenious fruit of integration of people together with its surrounding nature, engraved by generations with ancient methods.
