Doug - Occasionally a landscape image comes along that is just a bit different from the expected, and when it does - it is simply wonderful for the eye. This is just such an example for me..So little in the frame, but what is there is potent. :) Is this a tornado? I wondered..not sure..anyhow great shot. My best, Phyllis
Doug Roane  Thank you Phyllis. That compliment made my day. No, it was not a tornado - someone told me it is referred to as a wall cloud, but I'm not sure if that is correct. This storm produced a torrential downpour about 15 minutes later on my drive home, but only lasted about 10 minutes.
Phyllis Clarke  Thanks Doug for the info. It did not quite look like a funnel cloud - but then what do I know about a tornado? Nothing and I hope it stays that way. :) Phyllis

Wow - poor little airplane! :-)
Doug Roane  Yes, I was happy to be witnessing this storm from the ground, rather than the air :-)

Staggering stuff Doug. I can tell you that, as a pilot, this stuff is wonderful to see.... from the ground. I see it more than I'd like to in and out of Denver. Always gets the blood pumping. :)
Doug Roane  Thank you. The airport is only a mile away, so it was obviously coming in for a landing. I don't know if it came out of the storm or had just circled around for an approach, but I was surprised to see it so close to the storm! Torrential rain fell less than 15 min later, but only lasted 10-15 minutes.

I thought I could recognise your pictures when I saw them. This being a picture of the plains rather than your usual lakes and mountains, threw me off - good thing I voted for it then!
Excellent work Doug, one feels that the plane is racing to stay ahead of its doom - indeed, that the viewer too should make themselves scarce.
Excellent.
Doug Roane  Thanks very much Vic. I've gotta throw a curve ball in there once in awhile ;)

I was fortunate to have my camera with me (no tripod) on my way back from my grandson's first birthday party when I saw this storm brewing. I stopped to shoot the fields and sky. The plane was another bit of serendipity!

if the photo is made by the moment, this is a great shot.

Most amazing!
I admit that I notice the plane but now and not during screening (nevertheless I voted for :-).
Doug Roane  Thank you KPK. Yes, I like it without the plane also myself, but the plane adds a touch of drama, I think.
