King very nice portrait. Not sure if it is the blue cast but to me she looks more like an ice queen - rather unapproachable. But the portrait is great.

Hello King, a beautiful girl (according to my taste)... the photo though does not appeal to me so much... don't like so much that what she is wearing, like it is 'closing' her beautiful face... don't like this bluish (maybe my screen) monochrome (my taste)... maybe it lacks contrast... I find her eyes 'beautiful'... I guess I would liked it more if it was captured 'boldly' in say van Gogh style, as I feel she has enough 'energy' and beauty to be approached and portrayed that way (or this is only my reaction)... well what I know... nothing... I do apologize for not a positive criticism (only my amateur personal opinion so I hope you wouldn't mind)... well having an opportunity to 'shoot' such as model is 'something'... Kind regards, Robert ...P.S. to test my photographic technical knowledge I would say it was bright (her pupils are contracted) and the aperture does not seem to have been 'very large' (she is rather DoF sharp while due to rather tight crop you were either rather close to her or used longer focal length), shutter speed I assess as 'pretty fast' (couldn't find EXIF info for this photo of yours)

First I'm very open to critiques of any of my published images and wish the 1X.com community were more open to that in general. So I thank you.

Second, the original was an image used in a ski-wear catalog, so professional work. The original was shot with a Hasselblad and the 150mm Sonnar lens, which is a medium telephoto. It was shot with flash (multiple stobe units), so shutter speed is irrelevant. I was important for the product to carry sufficient detail, so I'm sure I wasn't shooting with the lens very wide open.

Third, this is a b/w conversion and tight crop of the original, which was too commercial looking for 1X.com.

Now when you mentioned that it is a professional shot for publication in a ski-wear cataloged I feel that pale-like soft appearance of the photo may suite the purpose well, probably to make it somehow neutral to text elements of the publication (which were probably regarded as important) or to fit the overall magazine feel better, and the choice of outfit makes perfect sense... Hasselblad :) well, what to say, what to say (maybe I have some prejudices about that camera, but it is somehow a symbol of excellence for me)... I guess that 150mm Sonnar is an excellent optics and perhaps 150mm mounted on medium format could be sort of 'standard' portrait lens (found on the Internet that 150mm on medium format may be equivalent to about 70mm on 35mm frame)... may I ask why do you get more details if you do not shoot wide open (is it due to DoF blur, or possible lens aberrations at the widest aperture, or something else)... I have no experience with studio flashes (actually any flashes), but it looks to me as an excellent job, doesn't looks as a flash photography to me at all (very gentle light, almost perfect with maybe exception of 'small' reflection on her lips and her right eye, no harsh shadows, well done)... may I ask if you have the original somewhere on the Internet? Thanks.
