I like the idea, not new by itself seen many attempts in screening, but this one has the right mood imo.

I just wish you had a rejected picture in your hand rather than one with small thumbnails.

-that way you would have gotten 2 published in one- :)))

Well your picture brings up a great topic. BUt I'm getting to see things in a different light. Its not so much the screeners as it is the what the community believes is a good picture. The community for the most part thinks clarity is the big deal because that is what gets published. BUt its the community that says publish or not publish that pushes pictures to the screeners. he Screeners work with what is given.

I think we have to re-educate the community is anything. Trust me some of the comments are so far out their that its painful to read. That's why I have a homepage. Also the community for the most part are weekend shooters that take a camera out to be social.

Also the community believes they learn by looking at the work done by the community. Good or bad its just how it has become. This is why the selection style is so narrow. You have to have eyeballs clear skin, or old wrinkle skin and this all has to be accompanied with a pose or look into the camera.

Your' better off looking into the surreal with photoshop being your friend and doing anything meaningful that doesn't require photoshop.

If you don't believe me just start reading the comment in the critiques. Very few strive for communication outside the box for developing one's idea, and very few that submit for a critique don't know how to ask. If you think of a movie its the Matrix. If you want to open your eyes you begin to see that we are all apart of the community and that its the individual that has to take the risk and feel the pain until someone or some part of the community wakes up.

Whats new or what I see are some changes in Documentary, Street, Everyday, Landscape and Portraits. How ever what is old and crucifies art in these categories is the belief of what is technically right.

If you look at it today. All the work that gave photography a foundation is not tossed in the trash can by a bunch of idiots that have no real foundation or studied photography to any depth.

So people use strobes and do lots of illustrative work here and ad place them in categories tat really don't fit. But its their world and that makes it fine for them.

It best you make friends and have great journaling like Ansel Adams and Georgia O'Keeffe and Joseph Stieglitz. If you don't understand that I suggest you run off to the book store and fine the book titles Ansel Adams Letter. It covers his life span and includes his friendship tied to photography.

That is the only thing really worth while. Not so much shooting, because anyone one can point and shoot now. BUt not very many have the skills to communicate and grow as a photographer. The end results will surprise You.

Hey, That's what I'm doing. Developing the communication to improve photography within my self and for the few I share thoughts with. Together we grow. Alone we stay in the community and it becomes stagnant.

Faddoush I have to disagree with you on some points, you are blaming the members more than what they deserve to be honest regarding publication here. Let us not forget that the final decision is the crew screeners and not members.

Instead of reading the comment in critique, may I suggest reading comments on published work, it is always complimentary and hardly any true honest deep opinion given. this however has been discussed many times in the past.

this is the first time I have and red so long comment regarding a photo in this site.. something that i want to tell to public with my photo is "I am tired with rejection!" and it means I have to find something new that never been published anywhere..

actually I almost give the title for this photo was "publish please part 2" which is I had "publish please..." as 1 of my photos in here (http://1x.com/photos/member/24434/27610/)

I hope that I really do understand what you are saying regarding a lot of things in your comment but what can we do here? something that I'm sure is just exactly the same in everywhere, "take it or leave it" but I have to think twice about some point regarding some idiots that dont have any idea about foundation and they use photoshop as a last weapon to make their photo as clean and beauty, may be that's their ability to "manage / create something fom bad to be better", anyway.. I am not to talk about this I might be one of photographers that can't use Photoshop as my cosmetic in my photos and glad this is the one that I shot with analogue camera, self developing and it's works...

Funny ........... but also very irritating, looks like the screeners in this case like to make fun of us!!
so may be funny but the foto it self is not that exeptional to reach the high standards of this site!! ok let`s smile all toghter :-/

Radu Dumitrescu I find the standards of this website quite low, exclusive, but not high at all. There are some good photos on this website, but lots and lots of bad photos, loved by the "community", all of them "original" but all in the same way.
Anyway, they don't say that your photo is bad, they say that it doesn't fit their target so I find it fair. I still think that a lot of the pictures here are crap, but that's just my opinion.
If you looked at the popular pictures a year ago and you look at the popular pictures today you'll find a big difference, but that's just the way the mass decides and now everybody's a photographer, even if they do it just for show-off and don't really care to study. A couple of photoshop or lightroom plugins and presets and presto: instant art.

limawhisky, I like your photo. It's nice and moody and really good considering the context.
Not bad at all. It's better to focus on the picture itself rather than on the "after effects". If the original picture is crap, it will be processed crap when it's modified, but still crap anyway, so don't bother when you get rejected pictures, just keep working and always compare to the best.

How can anyone talk about higher or lower standards when it is about photography. Something so subjective like music. The first sentence of this statement is already "crap" as you call the pictures of others.
For me it sounds pretty arrogant, please consider that others might call your pictures "crap". You are the "community" too.

Furthermore, complaining about effects and tools is completely wrong for me. Those effects and tools are a certain level of abstraction, evolving every day and everyone uses tools. It's not important how an image was created. It exists in the photographers mind, and it's only a matter of applying the tools to result in what he has in mind. It's totally irrelevant if you used an effect, plugin or other tool - the only thing that counts and can be judged is the result.

Radu Dumitrescu And that result was the thing I said I didn't like. There are good heavily processed and full of effects photos. If a photo is good, then it's good, I have no problem with that and I don't quite care of how much it was processed. What I do care about is a bad photo taken as a good photo just because of that processed look.

I totally agree with you, the only important thing is the result, but (as I've said above) in lots of cases I find the good result substituted by the quantity of effects. A bad photo doesn't become a good photo. It will remain bad.

It's an endless and subjective discussion. If I think something is crap, I don't think it's universally acknowledged as crap :) it's just my opinion, and, like you pointed out, somebody else could consider my pictures crap. I find that normal.

My intention was not to generalize.

I am not trying to pretend as a humble person but in my opinion there is not bad photo but just we like or dont like that photo, for sure NOBODY HAVE THEIR RIGHT TO SAY ABOUT STANDARD OR NON STANDARD LEVEL ABOUT ONE PHOTO CAUSE EVERYBODY HAVE TRIED TO DO THEIR BEST TO SHARE ABOUT THEIR FEELING!

hah... let's make it easy, as you did, you like/ happy with my photo then give a nice comment and save it in your fav otherwise just leave it without hurting anybody.
