Great image Andre, and to me a great use of shallow DOF on the 'street' context. There is nice interaction between the faces here, and of course a 'climax'. Also the composition is very classic, with main subject matter centered, which makes me thing that sometimes relying on simple conception (i.e. not too much affected by composition "rules") is the way to go. It's about conveying an emotion seamlessly, right from the eye/heart to the viewer (and well, you are rather good at that!)
Andre du Plessis  So nice to see my own image through your eyes. Many thanks for the analysis Jacques, and regards.

Andre,

Congrats to you and Charles!

Colmar
Andre du Plessis  Appreciated Colmar. Was a little worried about that building in the back, but after Mihnea mentioned that it looks like 'old film', I am much happier with it. Cheers, Andre

Oh, this was yours! what a pleasant surprise, I loved it in screening, love the shallow dof and the centering of your subject.

Iso 800!!! you should really share with us :)))

Andre du Plessis  Hi there! I am comfortable to push the speed when I know that very little will be cropped away. Also - I can live with a bit of grain, but those motion artifacts send me dilly. So often I have returned from somewhere, only to find that my favorite frame shows movement.

i can only congratulate you on this excellent focus,Andre.
funny shot that takes us back to the past and the future at the same time.
Andre du Plessis  Thank you Barbara. The focusing was not that problematic - switched to manual. The problem was to get the passers-by in this formation. Regards.

I think that Charlie is not forgotten and will never be.Nice focusing.
Andre du Plessis  I also very much doubt that, at least I don't hope so. His stuttering walk is priceless. Thanks!

I like this picture a lot Andre, I like the way you put the peoples arround the POI.
Excellent work.
Andre du Plessis  Thanks Captain. Although I enjoy the street work, it remains so damn difficult to get something worthwhile. To some extent this was easier, as I captured a street performer, which allowed me more opportunity to compose etc. But I guess that it is all part of the journey... Regards, Andre
Great shot!
Andre du Plessis  Thanks for the feed back Frederick

very well done! and the background building adds a lot to the atmosphere, looks like an old film...
Andre du Plessis  That is so interesting that you see it that way. It is the windows of the Shell building close to Waterloo station, and I was a bit worried that it will distract. old film you say... how intventive and fresh...!

Like the way you placed the Charlie Chaplin lookalike to make a clever composition. Well done Andre a fine street image.
Andre du Plessis  Hiya Gerry. Thanks. I managed 3 frames with him isolated at the apex, but this one worked better for me. The one where he looks my was seemed to contrived, and is actually a misrepresentation as I only spoke to him only afterwards. Keep well, Andre

He doesn't really seem to care about being forgotten... maybe he knows something?
Maybe the title wants to tell more than the photo has to it, but it doesn't matter -you got trueblooded street photograph here through very minimalistic means. Cool one, obviously you didn't think about the white elephant! :)
Andre du Plessis  Hee-hee. The white elephant was too large and heavy to move. However, luckily I did not think about it beforehand. Bless me!

and still exist!
Andre du Plessis  ...for sure. The best of my Charlie CD's was squeezed into the void between the floor boards by a 8yr old, however, after this one I shall lift those boards to relive him. Regards, and thanks. Andre

great dof. really beautiful shot. bravo
Andre

Once again a brilliant street capture. You are the man to watch when it comes to finding the best in street photography. I wish I could have made it that weekend. DOF is just spot on, what a great image.

Regards Richard
Andre du Plessis  Hi Richard. I won't be the one that tells you: I told you so.
Well, I told you so:)
Sorry.... I could not help myself. Thanks for the vote of confidence, and regards.

Wonderful. Is Charlie seeing the future or are they looking back..this photo could have many meanings. As always well done..BTW Since he is in focus..I think he is seeing the future. :) Congrats. Andres. My best Phyllis
Andre du Plessis  I don't really know myself, but surely hope that he is looking ahead! I wrote a bit below to Miguel that tells you the way I saw this. Lots of regards Phyllis:)

love it! like people wouldn't recognize him! perfect
Andre du Plessis  Hello Miguel. This was taken a few weekends back during a short stroll along the south bank of the Thames with four other site members. This street performer did not seem quite as 'confident' to me as the other 'Charlie' who I have seen down there before, and I set out to try and capture that. He seemed to lack the magnetism that one expects, and relied rather on opportunism, with the result that many simply passed him by, lending him a sideways glance only. I am quite certain that they also sensed his akkedged discomfort.
This was my attempt to capture this dynamic. I went up to speak with him afterwards, and he turned out to be such a pleasant and friendly person. Giorgio is from Santorini in the Aegean, and has been doing his stint there since October. His accent is still quite strong, and who know...maybe that might be part of the reason. However, I now understand why he picked up on a character from the era of the 'Silent Movies'. I wish him well - he said that I should bring him some prints. However, I have others that I think he will like more. Thanks for your comment, Andre

DOF ...well done Andre!
Andre du Plessis  Thank you Geir. For once what I tried actually became a reality:)

Gee you pulled out the big lens for this shot. Seeing that the wide stuff wasn't working you made up the ground at 80 mm.

bravo
Andre du Plessis  Yep - I have to occasionally use it, as I lug it along each time and it's heavy:) However, it has it's uses and thesedays I seem to use it more frequently in this new 'anti-street' London. Thanks! Andre
