An image that tells so much

This is a superb environmental study of this girl Prateek. We see her well enough, but in this we learn so much more of her than a closely cropped portrait, which could have been the alternative and safe way to go. I can so understand and associate with this composition, and am simply very happy to see it published. To some extent this is a more 'natural' capture than many will believe....
Prateek Dubey  Thank you so much Andre

Prateek, i've read all the comments below and i agree with Balasz.
The photo becomes more impressive each time you look at it.
Standing of the body tells too much, i see the innocence of the child to how obeys what's told to her. Great work. Missing sandal is another plus of course.

I think in the comment of Balazs is all expressed what the value and expression of this picture is about.
Maybe only still pointing out the missing sandal that adds special charm:-).
There is so much magical emanation to discover that it's surely a fatal mistake that many of us Westerners often just see poverty in such a scene.
Dear Prateek, my congratulation to this wonderful photograph.
Prateek Dubey  Dhanyavad Helmut. As I go along and taking pictures,I'm realising that it is the one dimensional approach of measuring a person's existence with the amount of money he/she has which is the root cause of most conflicts. The rich pity the poor. The poor begin to pity themselves . I had a particular dislike towards communism and now I completely hate it. This neurotic desire to make everyone equal is absolute rubbish. The little girl is dirty, she is wearing only one slipper can we not just notice her blank, stoic expression and find it funny? I see a lot of humor in it. I see so many dimensions, textures and much much more happiness amongst people who survive with much limited resources than us. The other day I saw children and adults wrestling early in the morning. Just a red loincloth and loose sand pit for equipment. They were having such a blast. All were the daily wage earning class and migrants from Bihar.Babli's father had a sense of humor and was easily drawn towars the camera. I wonder how many would do that in a mall....
Helmut Schadt  Prateek, I fully comply with your statement.
During my travels in so called "third world countries" I often found more joy in life and warmth of heart amongst people living in circumstances that might be called not suitable for human beings than in well fed Germany.
And since I was interrogated by the police because I took pictures where in the distance were some kids I prefer to try such pictures like this one when I come again to India and SO-Asia!
Well, in India during a period of martial law like reign of Indira Gandhi I once got problem with police when photographing a woman with baby, selling self made necklaces that the police man considered to be a beggar. It was his duty and proud to avoid that people outside his beloved home country would see that India isn't only the land of Maharajas, galantry and exotic glamour;-)
But this very different from the paranoia prevailing here when it comes to streetphotography!

If everyone could take photos like this, Adobe's developers would find themselves behind a counter asking "do you want a menu with your cheeseburger?"
To me, this image also shows that any rule in photography should be taken with a pinch of salt. No golden section, no "warming up" of the subject to get a catchy emotion on the face, very static, no nice Indian colors, no documentary black-and-white. Yet the image oozes life and emotion from every pixel.
It's an image that makes me want to throw away my camera because I can't take one even remotely as good as this.
It's not about how you captured it, how you edited it, how you showed it. You, the photographer, are not present in this picture. All that affects and touches us is the subject. This is something very difficult to achieve.
Okay, one needs a certain amount of compassion - deeply buried beneath lens tests, photo books, PS tutorials, eBay camera prices and an almost macho desire to avoid emotional manipulation - to like it, but ain't it great to see such a severe image that can move something inside us despite all its simplicity?
Anyway, the bottom-line is: "wow great shot congratulations".
Prateek Dubey  Balazs,
Thank you so much for your encouraging words.I don't know what to say, but your words have removed many a cobweb of confusion wrapping the purpose of photography. The subject is paramount.. the rest is fate and incidental. Thank you so much again.

Touching picture...

I honestly hope that she will have a better life in the future...
Prateek Dubey  Yes it is touching, but she does go to school, so I hope her parents don't marry her off soon and she can have a great life..

Well, I always follow your works and honestly you have a great profile but this is a little far from what I could expect from someone such as you.
I don't mean to be impolite or anything but I dislike the very designed pose of this little girl (so still)... specially when we are somehow directed to observe her intense life watching her bare foot maybe you could more creative with the pov or capture her natural pose.

My Best regards.
Prateek Dubey  Hello Mina, I tried very much to make her smile. But she just refused to budge from her pose. I put this picture because I believe that is the reality of her existence. So closed in a relatively open area. As a photographer I was struck by the form and space of the moment. If it disturbs you then I've succeeded...However it is my philosophy to capture the positive spirit of people whom we believe are living in poverty.
Mina  Well thank you for the reply. as I said I am big fan of your (other) photos... I just told myself, in this photo, I see the photographer more than the photo and the subject itself!

but maybe, who am I to let myself give words to what I simply think, where many seniors have already agreed on your success, approaching your very own objective. :-)

my best regards
Prateek Dubey  Mina, believe me, your comment is the most valuable for this photo. I believe that it is the critical comment which has the power to make one look inwards. Praise is a dead end! So thank you so much of voicing your opinion. It means a lot to me and (hopefully) you will not hesitate to tell me what you think about my photos truthfully.

NIce , soft and touching thought in her look and stance with her missing shoe.
Prateek Dubey  Yes, she was pulled out from her little home by her father because a photographer was roaming around. In her haste she forgot to put a slipper on!..
