Excellent idea and work to realize it. I agree with some previous comments on the nose but it doesn't change that the picture is great

The idea is not new, but a like it how it is done here:-)
Lev Tsimring  Ben, thanks for your comment! I do not claim copyright on this idea but I haven't encountered it before, would obviously be interested in seeing how it was done by others... can you give me some pointers?

A striking composition, well executed, but I'm not entirely sure that I like it. This has been in your mind for some time, you say. Given that this image is upside down, had you considered arranging the shot such that the perspective wasn't so graphically up the model's nose?...to me, that's an uncomplimentary view.

My comment reflects only my personal bias and if this weren't such a strong image (and if I weren't truly interested in your response), I wouldn't bother commenting beyond the first sentence.
Lev Tsimring  King, thank you for a thoughtful comment, I really appreciate it. In fact I agree with you about the nose, it bothered me a bit as well, I'd prefer it shifted sideways rather than up, but it is not easy to control placement of individual components in such an image. My model had to kneel on the floor keeping the head close to the mirror pieces, and she could not keep her head stationary for a long time necessary to achieve precise control of the image. I do have a "lame" version of the same shot where all pieces are in their prescribed places :)

(that was much easier, since all mirror places were simply flat on the floor)

cheers, Lev
King Douglas  Lev,

I'm aware of all the work you put into this photo, in addition to the lighting which is spot on.

I'm glad you took my comment in the spirit in which it was given. What I would have done, if I had decided to avoid the up-nose perspective, would be to make it hard on myself by rigging the mirror pieces on a board, eye level with the model and tilted toward the ceiling at a 45 degree angle to the floor. Then I'd put the camera above the mirror board, facing straight down.

I'm old, so instead of standing on a ladder and bending over the camera to compose my shot and arrange the mirror pieces, I'd probably build a platform where I could sit comfortably after climbing up the ladder.

This is just shop talk. I really admire this photo as is.

Brilliant idea and execution... Reminds me of an oriental tale: "Truth is a mirror given to men by the gods, but it fell and broke in a million pieces. Sometimes we can find one and pick it up, but only fools think they hold the truth in their hand" ;)
Lev Tsimring  thanks for the great metaphor Charlie, glad that my photo evoked it in your mind!
