The birdman & the squirrel
Talking to this man Ron after taking this shot (I know him from my frequent visits to this London park) he explained he was hand feeding a Pigeon with a deformed beak as he has done now for everyday since he first noticed it two weeks ago. The squirrel was a bonus!

The compassion of Ron, the squirrel peeking over, a bird in mid-flight, some ducks behind the fence, the expectant pigeons a boy and brigde to form the backdrop - so much to look out for here. Really enjoyable photo Gerry!
gerard sexton  Andre my friend this little cameos are so precious I was so happy to have been able to capture this & as you contain within the same frame so many elements that combined make this a magic moment. Good to see you on Friday too I didn't get home until 3:30! I will tell another time!

So funny.... we've all been searching for the squirrel :)
This is a wonderful, endearing portrait of a gentle soul in his everyday world. To be honest, I envy him.
So glad you've captured this moment, Gerry. It's a touching image, and apparent that it was created out of respect by a caring observer. Beautiful.

Mandy
gerard sexton  Yes it certainly isn't in your face! but these little animals abound in the park. There are people who come here & sell bags of roasted peanuts just to feed them; they get so many they spirit them away in little hiding places to get for later more lean times. Often I have found squirrels crawling up my legs looking for hand outs! This man is so mild nature & caring If I see him I will always pass the time of day with him. It was a special moment thank for seeing it too.
Well, it took me a while to see the squirrel and now I see. Great.
gerard sexton  Thank you Angela & thank you for helping Wings to look again.

Bird man yes but no squirrel I love it.
gerard sexton  Thanks Devon sometimes an image needs to be pondered just a little bit longer!
Angela Bacon-Kidwell  Yes, look at the mans behind. ;)
Wings  On second look Yes!!!! it is a. There is a Squirrel at the Ma's rear end looking for a "NUT" :))))))) Please note being that I am a guy I don't look that hard at hmmmmm errr that. hahahah this is a true Dr Zoo and the animals are all talking to him or he's talking to them. Hmmmmm Tea please if yo may. Again great shot. Oh so where's the cat? In the Hat I presume. Its a nice street moment and I d like walk bye's , it add a different dimension to street mugs with eyes. Here there is a story to capture to share with universal qualities. Thank's to Kidwell I might have been the blind man looking.

I always enjoy seeing people with a warm heart for nature.
To me, your side note gives extra meaning to the image.
I also like the dof here...
It's a beautiful photo Gerard.
gerard sexton  Thank Jeroen photography has open the way for me to meet so many people both practitioners & ordinary passers by some lead to long terms friendships others just acquaintances but nonetheless rewarding. The pidgeons & the grey squirrels are much maligned here as pests but this guy has an affiliation with them that is admirable to see. Thanks for passing comment.
limawhisky 2 years ago
yeah... the squirrel and flying bird made this photo more complete to tell the story! looks like they are waiting their turn to go to his hand...
all the best Gerard!
Unggul
gerard sexton  Unggul you are so right & yes with some luck these images are there I also liked the way the other birds are queuing for their turn! Thank you for stopping by to comment.

wow... above from watching the true photographer in this photo, I do see "The Lucky man" as well behind the seen. very good. I'll save this and put it as my desktop background :-)
gerard sexton  Mina so right though consider this; we make our own luck! I know this park so well & there is always something to photograph though it does not always come as good as this! Thank you once again for stopping by & leaving your feedback it is really appreciated.
Mina  Sure Gerard. I guess, I have expressed my excitement about this photo before. and objectively you're so very much right about the luck issues. though hey I call it luck when it comes to having the oportunity to be there......... I call it a good photographer he has the opprtunity to shoot this, specially this way .

:) I love this image, really a wonderful catch! Excellent, perfectly done Gerard!
gerard sexton  Thank you Codrin I do too its so nice to see this guy he has such a warm nature & the fact he shows concern for one pigeon (there are thousands in London) is a measure of his compassion towards the wildlife here.
Phyllis Clarke 2 years ago
Gerard the squirrel is totally amazing. Here many squirrels can have rabies and no one would get that close ..also they would not come that close..Is that a red squirrel..? Great shot! Phyllis
gerard sexton  Hey Phyllis thanks for stopping by. The grey squirrels in St James & other London parks are used to people & this guy is one of quite a few men & women who come to the park armed with nuts & bread to feed the wildlife. Most are retired & elderly & each is a character. I know most of them from my regular visits to this little park. I have known occasions when walking through the park when squirrels are crawling up my legs expecting a meal! The park is great at this time of year just coming to life again after the dormant winter.

gerard,

Lovely composition with the fence leading the eye also to the little boy.

Congratulations.

Colmar
gerard sexton  Thank you Colmar I can now walk around London without feeling conspicuous with my big lens & though hardly ideal for street it has its uses as this shows. I would have preferred that the bird in his had was showing its face & got that 3 frames later but by then the squirrel had gone!
