Very nice. I have a very similar shot from that pass in my gallery :)
Dirk Smith  Your photo is very crisp! I hope this view will not change a bit in the next 1,000 years.

Like blue eye. Bravo.
Dirk Smith  Thank you Dragan. I understand that the colour of the lakes come from light being dispersed by finely ground rock particles suspended in the water. As the glaciers move they grind down the rock to a fine powder.
Dragan M. Babovic  Yes. Our blue planet is the best thing we have. This your photo is the same quality as the best shots in Yan Arthus Bertran and Luk Beson film The Home about our planet. Look here http://www.home-2009.com/us/index.html

looks like you were a little above treeline here, eh? ;-)
great expansive view
Dirk Smith  Indeed, I will sponsor a trip to Peru if you can spot a tree in this one. I would have loved to have slept there, I had enough water but I chickened out.

Thank you all for the kind compliments! The picture was taken in the Cordillera Huayhuash in the Peruvian Andes. I hiked up San Antonio Pass and scrambled up a ridge east of the pass where this was taken from. The altitude was approximately 5,100m/16,700ft. When I reached this spot it was sunny and blue skies and then a storm came over the range but it cleared up again before sunset. This was taken after the storm passed. When it got dark I made my way down to the lake where I spent the night. A truly breath taking place to be in, especially solo.

If you are standing here you have to be a over 17,000 feet. What a breath taking moment.
Dirk Smith  Almost 17,000 but not quite. The higlight for me was a herd of wild vicunas running on the scree slope below me.

The scene is fine, but I think the lower left corner... ...without it, but more. The light is hard. I tried BW ;)
Dirk Smith  Thank you for the feedback. I tried a slightly more aggressive edit on the version on my website increasing the midtone contrast a bit more. But for now I'm happy to get something published.
