cool image my friend!! you really catch the vibe... i gueess you had a good walk :)
Andre du Plessis  Fair. Frankly nicer to walk with someone else when I hit the streets. Also easier to stand around in a 2-some and then less feeling like an 'undesirable type' ..and then there are the beers of course. Not really in my soul this type of work, but as I mentioned, starting to enjoy it more and more. The AF of my 21yr old 80 - 200 2.8 lens is so slow! It whirrs in and out and then...poof..the subject is gone already. But thanks for asking anyhow. Andre

Andre, stunning. Not that it matters to the final result but was it a straight capture or slightly set-up?

Cheers Chris
Andre du Plessis  Hi Chris. This was assisted - see below. I became fed-up of waiting for the right person after an hour in the cold and asked some passers-by to linger underneath this poster. Andre

Another outstanding piece of photography. I dont know where you find these places but you seem to have a great eye for detail. One of my favorite photographers ever. The work you do is so refreshing. I look forward to the next image.

Kind Regards Richard uk

Brilliant great perspective a full on image that really gives us the scale & the position of each of the humans is spot on. An image I would be seriously proud to have in my portfolio. Well done my friend.
Andre du Plessis  Thanks for the feedback Gerry. I have to admit, I was feeling very uncertain about this image's chances of publication. I guess that is the case when you move outside your own comfort zone. So receiving the votes today is a real boost for my street confidence. Cheers!

http://puesoccurrences.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/gullivers-travels-promotional-poster.jpg

wonderfull. there's a real connection between them, which sets this one apart (and above) most photos alike.
Andre du Plessis  Thanks Koen. As you will read in my reply to Ulf, I had a hand in the 'construction' of this scene. Your attached Guilliver looks less dandy that this one:) Cheers, Andre
KoPi  hmmm... hope you don't mind me saying this Andre, but I wish you hadn't put it up under street. It's still a good photo, but it loses a bit of its appeal and shine knowing that it was set up. I would like to know something : according to your own ideas of what is street photography, does this photo fall under 'street photography' for you ? It's not a rethorical question Andre. I would really like to know how you see this.
Andre du Plessis  I don't quite know Koen. If you look at the masters we know that some of the most famous work was assisted composition - meaning that the human component or deciding element was added to an existing pre-visualised scene. I guess that a lot is determined by logistical factors. Here I was fully exposed and no ways could I have captured a scene representing something that the passers-would not have been privvy to.
As far as purist I guess that street is 'clean', although I am not so sure about that in most cases. There has been countless forum discussions on this topic during the time that you were quiet. maybe you are righ - this should have been submitted under everyday. I have to admit - I did not really give it much thought before submission. In saying that, I might have infringed as far as category. Maybe I should take this category considerations more seriously. I have no problem should you suggest a move to another category - maybe everyday is more appropriate.

perfect
Andre du Plessis  Many thanks Balazs, but if I could have a re-run on this I would have preferred only the very right girl down there. I like the way she is staring up at he-man, and the way her clothes are positioned. Have a good day over there in Brussels, Andre

Funny! Well seen and well caught, Andre.
U
Andre du Plessis  Hi Ulf. I saw this poster, and hung around to get the right people to complete the composition, but it being so early in the morning, only guys in overalls walked by. Eventually this troupe walked across the street a bit down from me, and I asked them to go and stand there and do whatever they could. So - poster seen, but composition was not spontaneous. Regards, Andre
Ulf Börjesson  Well, at least you perceived the image before you took it, and that's what counts in my opinion :)

What a street design! The scale is amazing here. Dashing isn't he? I hope their good at sharing! :) Excellent find. Congratulations. My best, Phyllis
Andre du Plessis  Morning Phyllis! Yes, the scale is huge. It was his way of looking down to the street that I felt simply asked for an attempt. Hat's off to the advertising bunch who came up with this poster that engages the passers-by so effectively. Good day there, Andre

Nice shot. You're really nailing these urban art interactions recently. I like the 4x3 as well. Very snapshot like. Cute.
Andre du Plessis  'Urban Art Interactions' - I like the sound of that:) However, I still find street work not easy. The mix between having to 'go for it' or waiting (hunting vs gathering), the requirement for quick lens changing, the embarrassement that sometimes accompanies capturing Street and so on. My 'strike rate' is very low. This is quite a diversion from my usual more personal approach. Nevertheless, I enjoy this immensely, and shall hopefully improve with time. I wish to become more of the hunter...presently still a gatherer. Regards, Andre
Richard Ford  I think it was a Mark Kitaoka comment originally....
