Andre du Plessis  Thank you Helmut. Very glad that you like this, Andre
Une composition touchante . Tu nous offres toujours des regards qui vont droit au coeur . Il se passe toujours quelque chose. Toujours cette qualité photographique qui suit dans tes photos.

Affectueusement Chantal.

A touching composition. You offer us always looks that will right in the heart. There's always something. Also this quality
Photographic following in your photos.

Affectionately Chantal.
Andre du Plessis  Your words are very pleasing to hear - thank you very much for that. It is so that I try to add emotion to some of my pictures when the composition allows. But I wish to acknowledge that the ordinary people that I photograph are simply wonderful in this regard. Take care Chantal.

Hello Andre,
I just saw this picture. This is the second one for which I had no notice.I saw it now only because I went to my Account page...after sending you a short OE mail. So I sorry for the late comment...
I have not read the others..just yet..but I will. These boys are beautiful to look at..both of them...Maybe it is me projecting..who knows but these boys seem sad to me. Not a bad thing..if they are you have captured them with so much compassion. The one in the back..his hand gesture..takes my heart away. Bravo..they I will read who they are. My best, Phyllis
Andre du Plessis  Hi Phyllis. Thank you for coming in on this picture and commenting. Things were a bit hurried that day, and all the names etc I left behind at their house, and no ways i can phone there. But I shall find out next time. Sadnes..maybe you are correct there. We all see in a picture what we as individuals associate with, and in that anything goes. They were actually quite energetic during my visit, especially the front boy, so sadness I did not pick up on. This is the 2nd bedroom and the light blew me away, so I asked them for the picture here. I do not actually think that this is their bedroom - I think that they sleep in the living room, which I have a picture of as well, but somehow I do not think that one will make it:) Best wishes, and have a lovely day, Andre

Wonderful captured. Love the b/w, light and they allmost looks like twins with the alpha brother in front....;-)
Andre du Plessis  Hi Helen! Thanks - don't quite know if they are twins (will ask when they get their prints next visit). However, thanks - I think that light and B&W go together like eggs on toast (SA/UK sentiment) Regards, Andre

Stephen Edds  Yeah but your big five are Boere farmers with 20 litre potjies !!!
Andre du Plessis  ... you mean 5 big boere:):) Gosh - those guys can be huge / Plett Big Five = 2 cows, 1 horse, 1 donkey and a zebra chucked in for authenticity. Who can complain?

For me human story is always interesting, and it's clearly captured here. Well done
Andre du Plessis  Many thanks for that Boedi. I am glad that the image conveyed that over to you.
I changed the title as an afterthough to this, and i think that this is a case where the title certainly assisted with the story. Regards, Andre

Andre, I think Codrin has said it all....classic shot

Cheers Chris
Andre du Plessis  Hi Chris. Many thanks for that. See my reply to Codrin. Bye, Andre
Hi Andre,
Another good one.

His facial expression seems to be from an older person.
What do you think about his folded arms?
All the best
Landyman
Andre du Plessis  That is so interestng what you say about his facial expression. Someone who is very young (9), said the same 'his face is a mix of a boy and an older person' were her words. One never quite knows, but sometimes these kids have to fend for themselves at an early age, and sometimes translates into their face. However, that is precicely what I intended with this picture. He is the srtonger one, and here I wanted to portray his as the protector. He folded his arms himself, and the other boy held his head that way without me asking. When I looked at this for possible B&W conversion this awareness immediately struck me - here he has an element of aggressiveness in his posture and look. Maybe he is not even aware of this, which makes it work even better for me. You will notice that the boy in the back has a squint in the one eye, and this is also probably a contributing factor to him being the more submissive one. The folded arms worked in this context for me. It kind of locks them away from the viewer, and encapsulates the two of them in a protective way, guarded my the boy in the centre. Thanks for sharing your observation. Regards, Andre

When comes about portraits made with heart it's pretty clear for me that you are one of the few people able to do this, your work it's so much more than just documentary, it's about everything that human means! Thanks for sharing, Andre! A great piece!
Andre du Plessis  Your words humble me. Thanks Codrin. I am glad that you mention the word documentary. I see and submit this as portraiture, but it is pleasing that some images might have a 'documentary' feel to them. I do know that they do not really conform to what documentary is per se, but nevertheless.....Best wishes, Andre

How you get such excellent quality with ISO 1000 is amazing! again very engaging portrait.
Andre du Plessis  Thank you Faddoush. I think that all the newer cameras all have excellent low light processing (maybe the N trounces the others in my opinion). On top of this - I went full frame 2 years ago, for I do like indoor available light, and these RAW files give me such latitude to work with.

I love your work, but I have to stop by to notice that the title is awesome, too !
Andre du Plessis  Thanks Nicoleta. I upgraded 'brothers' to this one after upload - wanted to draw attention to the 'stronger' one, and not really suggest a double portrait with 'brothers', as the milder one is in the back and with the DOF rendered OOF, and he plays more of a supportive role here. Glad that you think that it works:) Andre
nicoleta gabor  I've understood, without words, the whole story of these boys from their eyes. The title is so cleverly choosed !

Andre,

Another night that I cannot sleep and here I find "Alpha Particles" and I thought they were in my head!

Lovely toning on my monitor and my congratulations once again.

Balazs Pataki 2 years ago
Yes, that's you at your best.
Andre du Plessis  Hi Balazs. Many thanks. I have uploaded a possible replacement for this, as this particular file needs a touch more sharpening
to the main boy's face and hair. I had it perfect before, in doing and re-doing the pre-upload file they sometimes deteriorate.
Nevertheless, thanks for the positive words, Andre
