Night Crossing
Now onto tonight's image. While crouched on the sidewalk capturing last night's post, I felt a rumble and heard a familiar, piercing whistle. I quickly jumped to my feet, struggling to reposition my tripod in time. I just barely managed to adjust my settings and pop off a 30 second exposure before the train passed.

The lengthy exposure left enough time for not only the train to pass, but also for the gates to rise up again and traffic to pass through. At the time I wasn't sure what effect this would have, but I am very pleased with the streaks in the final image. I feel the arch of the gate and on-coming headlights add greatly to the compositional value of this shot.

I processed this shot as an HDR, though I replaced the sky in the final image with that from the original exposure. I find when converting night scenes to HDR, the sky tends to be a sticking point. All in all, I feel it's a pretty cool looking shot. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts.
