Great photo - I now have it as my Desktop Background. My son is in the steel industry (in Australia) and was wondering which steel mill it is and when the photo was taken. Thanks.

It's not easy to compose a balanced photograph with such complex and different structures, the transition from warm to cold colors make it very aesthetic and the light stars punctuate this nice industrial scene.

Robert  Good question! I think on such place like a steel factory the fun factor is much higher!:-)

Great picture.
It somehow reminds me of drawings made in the top years of the industrial revolution. And artwork made for the great exhibition (1850) Celebrating the heroism of industry....

You've got great documentary pictures in your portfolio.
I'm going to mark this one as a favourite so I can come back to your portfolio for further enjoyment and study ;-)

wow Robert! it's amazing how much impact the color added. My comments about the perspective weakened due to this. Still not the top perspective, but it deserved to be published like this and I'm happy about it.

:)

Robert  Thank you Nicolas,

I was there again on a higher point but did not get the amazing light back. So I decided to crop it only and submit it again in color. Thanks for your help!

It looks like a HDR but a good one.
Robert  Thank you Uzay,

No HDR technique used here. It?s a single shot. With some camera adjustments you can reach a very good dynamic range and especially with the Nikon sensor and picture engine is so much possible.

Robert
KPK  Hehe, so in fact it is a kind of in-camera HDR feature :-) (meanwhile can be found in several camera models).
Robert  No its not an in-build HDR! Nikon offers in the camera set up some very interesting adjustments which reaches colours, colour balance, and D-Lightening. Together with the raise of the ISO-Speed also the dynamic range raises. Manual adjusted white balance do the rest. The light needs to be measured manually on different points in the picture and an average calculated for the exposure time with some fine tuning on EV and focus will do the rest! The rest is DOF-calculations and a bit luck for some good light! BTW, the RAW I developed with Capture NX 2! No photo shop for RAW developing! All others is level adjustment! :-)

Another thing is that such pictures shows clearly how advanced the Nikon picture engine is! I tried the same shot with an old D40x and its amazing what such simple camera can if you understand how to use!

Robert
KPK  Thanks very much for the detailed explanation!
Benjamin Jung  Not HDR, just a different tonecurve.
Frank Waechter 2 years ago
I already saw it elsewhere in b/w, but I did not imagine, how good it would be in colour. Now I see ;-) ...
Robert  Thank you Frank, I had the b/w version in critique.

Hi Robert,
great shot, did you use a filter to get such clean and sharp star-bursts they seem far nicer than ones I get using much smaller apertures? (which 50mm lens is this?)
Robert  Thank you Anthony,

I did not use a filter for this. I am very hard to get along with filters. I use 50 mm f1,4 D only from Nikon. Its just like this!

hi Robert...its a beautiful shot...I hate steel factories :) cause its my course and I kinda hate it :p...but there's something I'm wondering about.you mentioned BW conversion but I don't see any BW here...its colored...
Robert  Thank you Siavash,
It is a re submission and i cannot modify my text anymore. The former submission was in b/w and after really helpful critique I decide to submit it again in colour and with a different crop.

Thanks to all who helped me for this one in critique section!

And do not hate steel factories! So many things which are related in our daily life begins here in such melt shop. For the pollution I am agree with you!

Robert
KPK  "...It is a re submission and i cannot modify my text anymore..."

I hope you don't mind, Robert, that I used your image here in this forum thread ( http://1x.com/v2/#discussions/17473/edit-funtion-under-published-images-doesn039t-work/ ) as a current example why the 1x members want to have the edit feature back.
