I missed this one Sasson...quite superb work here. Really quite stunning B&W actually. Love how the gradation intensifies towards the back. Very interesting composition as well, but your processing certainly elevates this to another level.
sasson haviv  thank you my friend :) i will try to post a few more western wall images soon... they work very nice in BW but i will try to keep them in color.... western wall is a hard place to make the color alive... BW is so much better

What a strange strange ritual
sasson haviv  in screening somebody commented :
although I know what it is about it still looks strange... good strange :)
so you are not the only one to think it is strange.
i find that many clotures like to speak to kiss and touch walls or stones that have special significance
Noah Stephens  Yea, I hear you, the only thing is, theres no such thing as a wall or a stone that has special significance.

Its interesting that modern day humans still embue walls and rocks with superstitious, supernatural significance. But that's just me.

Nice shot, though.
sasson haviv  well i believe that every modern or ancient person turned or will turn a to higher power at least once in their life when they had a big crisis. usually health related i think.
superstitions is such a negative word but the power of faith is used in modern day hospitals to fight cancer they just call it visualization. reiki is acknowledged in many hospitals now. many of the superstitions rituals as you call them have very positive aspects on peoples life. this wall among other things has kept the Jewish religion and the connection to israel alive for thousands of years.
i like ancient clotures for their rituals :)
i find the modern day rituals to be quite boring :)
of course sometimes war starts due to walls, or rocks of special significance....
so there is good and bad like in everything

just my thoughts...
thank you :)

Noah Stephens  Lets just hope they dont reinstate the ancient Jewish ritual on taking women who aren't virgins and disobidient children and stoning them to death. Oh Vey!
sasson haviv  i take your respond as a joke although i don't find it very funny myself :) you see i am close to the people i photograph and respect them and their culture if it is christian,Jewish,Buddhist or Hindu. its probably my American education :)
Noah Stephens  I don't respect any belief simply because someone believes it. The beliefs of Judaism, Islam, and Christianity should be scrutinized the same as any other beliefs or ideas.

When you scruntinize those beliefs, its acutely obvious that they are superstitious nonsense that drive people to hate each other more than anything else. Its no coincidence that Israel is both home to those superstitious belief systems and one of the most violent places on earth.

The Torah advocates that women who were not virgins on the day they are married, should be stoned to death. Not only shouldn't Judaism be respected as a belief system, it should be reviled. The same as any other belief system that advocates savage violence.
sasson haviv  i guess you were not joking :) you really dont know your facts :) israel is actually not a violent place , it is made to look like this by media but if looking at statistics at number of deaths and injuries it is very low comparing to any new country or conflict. by the way juadism is the religion that banned human sacrifices .... not sure about the virgins but i know that at least for thousands of years it hasn't been done
its not religions that make people hate other but the interpretations of religion by people and political leaders. in any case i see you have no respect to others....
i hope you will enjoy the rest of my religious images because there will be many more :) but i request you to not comment them ... this is not a political website it is a photography one. you can email me your thoughts and i will answer on a more private setting

Great capture! I wish i find my way there one time to feel the spirit!

Robert
sasson haviv  you are welcome!!!
Robert  The spirit must be incredible so much that some vibrance can be felt!
sasson haviv  it is amazing at times. i have witnessed many great moments. a very spiritual place but it takes time to know the right places and people. on the outside israel doesn't look so spiritual but many closed communities are spiritual to a very high level. there is much to discover here..
