Rui, I wrote a reply to Alexander Gubin comment. I'm not sure you will be notified, so just to let you know my comment is down the list.

Rui Pires Already see it, Yakov. Shure the mask is part of all encenation, and not to a "trick" for audience. This is a scenario of polution and degradation, is normal people in this situations have special masks. Unfortunely i know sometimes in your country in a recent past your people need to use it. I sincerely hope never happens again, in your country and in others. Thank you :)

Oh Rui..great imagination here you have - truly. The man is good, but the backdrop you chose and whatever is on the ground is so realistic. Also..I can smell the Tri-X cooking. :))) Wonderful shot. My best, Phyllis Ah..I should thank Alexander too I think.

Yakov Shvartz When I saw the photo in screening I also questioned myself as to what is that exactly that I like in this image. I felt that the use of a gas mask is almost a "cheap trick" to captivate the viewer. I have seen some examples elsewhere that utilizes this gruesome item for it's apparent dramatic effect.

At the end I had to conclude that the soldier's posture, the surroundings, the B/W and yes, the gas mask, all worked their "magic" on me. I liked looking at the photo. It even reminded me of the atrocities of world war II. I thought the person is standing on a roof with openings for dropping the gas canisters.

So for me there was more than just a man in a gas mask but I think I understand your comment and I think that some will not "fall" for this and will see it as just using the gas mask to "trick" the audience.

I think the magic didn't work on me because I have made some gas mask concepts and I tried to put after a couple of them a more deeper idea, a more different approach to lighting conditions.
I will try to upload a reply with a photo , to show what I mean.

I've said this before: It's a great place to photograph, I've been there myself. But the idea and the result are indeed greater, no doubt! I'm not into film photography, but the dynamic range you get from it is really impressive
