The Gardener
A very gentle, soft spoken man who needed a lot of encouragement to step in front of my camera.
I'm really happy he did.

One of my favorite portraits I've seen. So much emotion in his face. Just an excellent example of portraiture IMO.
Edd Carlile  Than k you so much for the kindness.

A wonderful personal portrait. The fact that he dislike beeing in front of the camera, makes the picture even better, as he has a very expressively face. Well done.
Edd Carlile  Thank you.

And I'm really happy he didn't lose all his reservations, scepticism, distrust or whatever is written in his face, making this photo so outstanding.
Edd Carlile  Thanks man......he really had to be convinced he was worth photographing. I remember distinctly telling him,"You have great bone structure in your face, fuck man!for photography you are beautiful!"

I did in fact say that.
He smiled and shook his head and then took up the position in front of my lens.

This image comes from a project I did in Glasgow called, "Glasgow Faces"
If you head over to my website you can see all 76 portraits.
Balazs Pataki  And not to mention the video on youtube! :)

Another nice one Edd, I must ask you this time, what kind of editing do you do to get this kind of painting but real effect....or is it play of light in a studio?

congrats!
Edd Carlile  Thanks man....simple Rembrandt style lighting is what I use (though actually not that obvious in this shot) and my own post processing.
