Layers of Light
Some additional information related to the picture:

Wulaia Bay, Tierra del Fuego - it is in these parts that Captain Robert Fitzroy, on the Second Voyage of the Beagle (1832) put 3 Yamana aborigines back on shore after they had been previously taken to England. They learned some English during their time in England, but eventually were quite happy to return to their former, very primitive way of life. The Yamana People living around here wore essentially no clothes and kept themselves warm by lighting fires - hence the name Tierra del Fuego (Land of Fire).

This one was in the "random" area of frontpage today, saw it first, and loved it at once. A great work Colmar.
Christoph
Colmar Wocke  Christoph,

Thanks so much for commenting. Yes - I myself have found quite a few pictures that I've liked in the Random part of the frontpage - some real treasures sometimes.

Very nice of you to drop the line.

Go well,

Wonderful photo and story!
Colmar Wocke  Brin,

Not a Landscape-picture as your own are - rather a picture of mood and the difficult life these people lived under (as the attached story tells).

Thanks!

Go well and keep your own pictures coming, please!

oh Colmar...what a view....i really regret that i will never see it on my own eyes :(
Wonderful....
and hey--congrats on another publications :))
Colmar Wocke  Monique,

Never say never - look up the cruise on Cruceros Australis - you never know. I saved for a few years to go on this trip with my wife (all you have to do, is not to buy another lens or two!!!).

Nice of you to stop by and also to leave the comments and smiles - brought a smile here too (and your English is very, very good).

Go well.

How beautiful! Thank you for the story. I always enjoy photography so much more when I know something behind the photo.
Colmar Wocke  Sandy,

I am glad that you feel this way - I too, like to round out the picture with a story. I cannot alter the photographic quality with a story i.e. make a silk-purse out of a Sow's ear, but I do think that an appropriately added background/story does no harm.

Thanks a ton for stopping by - nice of yopu and go well!

Congratulations! This one is really god! Much better then the one that you put up for critique.
Colmar Wocke  Stig,

Yes - just shows one how useful Critique can actually be on this site.

A different frame this actually, but I needed the "courage" to add mood here - I am often a little "light-handed" with development - maybe I need to rethink this! I got the reassurance that it would be OK to add some "punch" to the picture from Critique.

Go well and thanks for the comment.

Lovely shot. Nice story too. You are lucky to have visited that place.
I believe there is a tribe of people in that region that speak a language unbelievably close to Welsh. . .
Colmar Wocke  JBA,

Correct about the Welsh, but slightly north of here (maybe 500-1000 km). I journeyed down there on a second honeymoon with my "young bride" of 25-years and would love to go back, only to take pictures. Luckily she agreed that I could take along the E-3 this time!

Glad you liked the story - being an illustrator and working with a storyline this would also help to round it out for you, like myself.

Go well.

A great fav in screening. The photo presents all what the title promises. A spectacular shot Colmar!
Colmar Wocke  Balazs,

Glad to read you pressed the green button - it is up here thanks to that. Your critique on the former version helped me have the "courage" to up the mood and atmosphere to this Black and White picture, although it actually is a different frame.

Thanks!

Go well.

lovely treatment and composition Colmar...
Colmar Wocke  Morkel,

Baie dankie - many thanks - a little bit different to the Great Karoo, where I hail from.

It's all about mood there - so quiet, so remote and this sense of how earlier people lived!

Go well.

All the best,
Thomas
Colmar Wocke  Thomas,

I had the most lovely trip with Gretha, my wife, celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary (she has agreed to be with me for another 25, DV).

This place, at the tip of South America is so, so quiet and one really gets into touch with nature. I would wish to be able to spend a few days at this spot, for taking pictures.

Thanks for leaving the lovely comment and Go Well.

Almost the view that one would get from inside a "chopper" - I was high up - climbed up a hill for about an hour-and-a-half to get here.

Thanks for the well-appreciated comment!

The color one i like more! Congrats anyway!

Robert
Colmar Wocke  Meister,

maybe I will come back one day in the future with the colour one - I need to get some hours on PS(CS4) - I use very simple Postprocessing in Lightroom.

The coloiur version has a much more serene-look which I too, like!

Your comment most appreciated and glad that you told me that you like the colour-version.

Go well!

A beautiful display of shapes and light with that touch of heavenly light at the top..beautiful conversion. Bravo Colmar so happy to see it here..:))))) Phylis
Colmar Wocke  Phyllis,

This piocture has your help written all over it - from Critique. The Black and White picture just has the "impact" that the colour version is lacking. Critique has been helpful to me - thanks a ton for that.

This is actually a different frame - not just a cropped-out ship!

What a lovely morning this was - I would have LOVED to have lingered longer but couldn't as I was part of a group and "had a boat to catch"! No picture can actually do this spot justice - dead quiet over there, with the awareness of how the earlier people there lived (I added this bit here too, for Historical well-roundedness).

Thanks for the comment and go well!

Many thanks and go well.
