It is, as many have said, breathtaking. Story-telling. There are many words to describe a masterpeace, but in the end, they all mean the same thing. One caveat, though..

I would call this a masterpeace, but.... with all it's strenght, I don't like it. I even feel irritated that you did it the way you did.
There's this compositional flaw - the girl's head is in line with the rock, which results in low contrast between the main subject and the almost as important surroundings. Bad choice, which might not have been as noticeable through the viewfinder.

The second thing is the angle of view. It's somehow... akward. I understand that it's probably how you saw the picture. I'd have loved it from the girls' perspective, maybe even lower - from an imaginary girls' point of view, looking at the subject as though she is a grownup. I'd have loved the subject facing the light with all the movement surrounding her. That shot would've been worth a book written. Art creating art. I'd be tempted to write a book.

Still, I understand that it probably would've been a completely different shot than the one you saw. I guess it's just my own idea, my own imagination. Thus - I congratulate you, and wish best of luck in the future. The shot is still breathtaking. Printed big, it would be imposible not to stare at for hours, dwelling in ones own thoughts. I'd be writting a book.
Ben Spurgeon  Thank you for taking the time to offer your comments and critique. Well taken, particularly the placement of her head.

Interesting thing about this photograph is that the water is very shallow. No more than ankle deep, but the motion blur gives a greater appearance of depth. I actually wanted her a bit lower and further to the left, but she walked out too far; she was only 4 so I can't complain, brave enough to get wet and do her best to stay still. She was quite proud of herself. A lower vantage point would have been nice, but then either the camera was going to take a bath or the tripod would move, i.e., it meant getting in the water as well. So I set up on a rock before asking her to wander out.

Cheers, Ben
Romanas N.  Well, that's brave - asking your daughter into the water, and staying dry yourself :) Kidding.

You know, I've always thought that a masterpeace is worth the risk of damaging your gear. The chance might not come to you again.

However, by no means am I saying that the photograph isn't good. It just that irritation that it could've been even better, much. It's like being mad at yourself (or, in this case - someone else you admire) that he didn't do his best and came in second, rather than first. It still very good, but not as much as it could've been.

By all this I guess I just want to say that you have a huge talent. Very best of luck to you, Ben.
