Wonderful shot! May I ask if this was a single exposure? I am also curious where the reflected light on the water's surface and rocks is coming from? Is this moonlight? However, the stars are so clear and bright, and the sky is so dark, it must be a moonless sky! Again, very beautiful shot.
John Colbensen  Hi Lars. Yes you may ask if it is a single exposure. The answer is yes. I edited it in PS splitting it up in layers though. I was waiting for someone to ask about that light in the water. And NO,it is not the moon. This place is situated close to the inflightzone for our airport. The light you see is actually from 3 huge floodlights underneath the airplane as it is getting ready for landing. During the whole exposuretime, two planes managed to light up the stretch you see. I also enhanced it a bit in editing. So the airfield is about 1 kilometer behind me to the left and this is the explanation for the reflected light. Thank you very much for a reflected comment Lars. Hope the answer was sufficient :)
ixhumni  Thank you too for the detailled description John,it is a great way of learning..;-)..Best Regards

Extraterrestrial! That's the feeling........

Love the exposure, love the composition, the stars, the island, love everything on it.

Very good work.

Gr. Theo
John Colbensen  Thank you very much Theo. Worked a bit to get this right :)
How the hell did you do that? Did you use a motor tripod for the sky? If yes, how did you capture the water? Two single images copied together?

Ah, doesn't matter how. The result is perfect and most beautiful.

No! I really love to know how you made it :-)
John Colbensen  Hi Kaveh and thanks a billion for a wonderful comment. How the hell did I do it? Tripod of course (not motorized though) and a main exposuretime at 135 sec. I used a black cardboard to switch exposuretime between the upper and the lower part. I would guess the upper part was exposed for around a minute as for the lower part I'd say around 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Of course I had to do quite some work in editing, especially on the skypart. It was try and try again,I can assure you... When using a 10 mm lens and facing mostly away from the northpole I get to expose the stars without getting too much trails..:)
Kaveh H. Steppenwolf  Thank you so very much for the explanation. That's another reason for moving to Norway ;-)

John Colbensen  I hope you have a lot of money...cause it's incredible expensive to live here :)
